Is there a specific reason you need a Cobb AP?
Maybe you could provide some details what it is you are trying to satisfy with the Cobb AP.
There are other solutions out there perhaps we can recommend something else to fill your requirements.

After reading three threads and looking into the only other couple tuners for Rx8’s it seemed that the Accessport was most efficient and user friendly but also would do what I needed it to. My idle needs adjusting, set rev limits, I believe you can change up fuel trims and I’d really like to be able to deal with my dtc codes myself more often (oxygen sensor and catalytic converter)

Ah ok,
Well first thing is you need to have another piece of software that does not come by default with the Cobb AP to do what you want.
Access Tuner Race (ATR) is the ecu mapping software used to make these kind of adjustments. You save the modified ecu map using ATR then load it to the Cobb AP which in turn flashes the new map to the ECU.
The problem is to get the ATR software you need to take a tuning course held by Cobb.
(The ATR software is developed by Cobb and the course I believe is around 100 USD)
After that they will provide you a copy of the ATR software that is married to the Cobb device.
I thought I saw something about Cobb being purchased by another company so I'm not even sure where this stands now.
You might find Versa-Tuner or MazdaEdit acceptable alternatives.
Especially because they don't make the Cobb AP for the RX8 anymore.
And well buying used stuff is well always a little risky.
Edit:
Looks like they just call it AccessTuner now.
Here's the link to the RX8 page to apply for the AccessTuner software
