It seems like you're taking two steps back to restrict/block it off with all that OE junk.

Anyone got information on how to connect the fans. I have a single fan so trying out to figure out which connector to use. The fan has 3 wires while the stock lead has 2.
Can't rum my car until this gets sorted. |

It works! :-D
Coolant temps are ~17 degrees F lower for me at Laguna Seca. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...4e140e99e2.png rx8performance radiator vs stock 2004 coolant temps. Two laps from the middle of each session. Similar laptimes & air temps. |
That's a nice change :)

At first it didn't seem correct, but now I see that's a simple and elegant solution.
|
Glad to see your results blu3dragon! I would agree with Team on the OE parts. If you have an aftermarket intake removing the air box mount will improve airflow through the radiator and further reduce temps.

Just a heads up, there is another run of these finishing up now and a couple units not yet spoken for. If your looking to reduce your operating temps these unit's work really well!
In other news, was chatting with Ric from Ric Shaw racing and he reported in a 300km endurance event he competed in recently (and won) with his S2, temps were in the 90's C the entire event. Congrats, well done Ric! |
Race season and track days will be here before you know it guys, we currently have a couple of these units ready to ship!
|
sorry I'am a newbie, but is there any automatic version of this rad? or do I need a separate transmission cooler?
|
Hi sapibuntinx,
This radiator does not have a provision for a built in heat exchanger style auto trans cooler. You would have better results using an external trans cooler than an integrated type and I can help you with that as well. Feel free to send me an email to sales@RX8Performance.com or call the shop directly and I will be happy to advise you of some of your options. Thanks, Scott |

Is anybody using the RX8 performance Dual pass radiator in conjunction with a Greddy turbo kit? If so what radiator hose did you use on the bottom fitting of the radiator up to the engine thermostat housing? Or if you have a photo of your setup including the hoses in position would be great.
I have found a hose to fit to the top radiator inlet, but due to the fact the Greddy intercooler pipe sits so close to the bottom radiator outlet, it looks like I will have to modify the radiator outlet. Any help is welcome. Thanks |

As I had said due to the Greedy turbo intercooler pipe being in the way, fitting a hose to the radiator outlet up to the thermostat housing is differcult, so we did some modifications to the radiator outlet. Here are some photos of the changes.

Feel your pain. Luckily may radiator fitted and i also used the stock hoses.
I also fitted my intercooler pipes and no clearance issues. |
Are these in stock at the moment? I was about to buy a Koyo, but it looks like these perform much better.

I'm using an AL. aftermarket single pass plus an extra small rad. mounted where the 2nd oil cooler would go. Works great!

05 S1 sport with mazda remain Exterior Re amemiya Front spoiler and vent hood Cooling mod RX8 Performance radiator, cnc blade water pump, low temp thermo Stock airbox and stock location battery Weather 29C with semi wet track The car can handel 2-3 lap of full on driving With coolant temperature no more then 95c if keep rev to 8000, once shift behind that the coolant temperature quick climb up to 100c and will take while of below 5000rpm cool down lap to lower it!! |
100C water temperatures are perfectly safe. Over 105C and you should start slowing down.
If you notice coolant temperatures keep climbing at high speeds, you need to make sure the radiator is sealed on top, left, and bottom. Not doing so will allow air to bypass the radiator and not cool the engine. |

Also, this isn't an RX-7. |
Watch out for that ditch ...

Just going to say that if you buy this radiator and then block it off in both the front and rear will all the OE crap as the last guy above did you’re just shooting yourself in the foot. Blocking off everything with foam to force more air through is also treating the symptom rather than curing the real problem. Your engine bay is going to hot enough to out-sear Ruth Chris’ steakhouse.

Good choice. Getting rid of that airbox will be even more of a help :)

I personally think this is cooling mode I should done first !!!!! Next week , I will test at track, to see if I can keep coolant under control 100c for 3lap Then I think I will add Ram air scoop to see if the performance gain on that , affect coolant temp |
I had no illusion that you’d heed my advice

Unfortunately, the radiator lasted less than 15 000km. The radiator sprung a leak. Cannot see any damage externally

Sorted my coolant leak. After checking all hoses, which are new, I still had a persistent pesky leak over the last few days. Pulled & pressure tested the rad. tonight. Yep... leaks at corners of both end tanks of my dual pass rad. Smh.
|
A real test !!
Weather was 90F high with 70% hum Whole time Coolant temp stay around 98c/208f When I try to draft from front car , coolant will jump to 102c/208 , and for first time I own Rx8 I can run whole session !!!!! |

Shame that the radiator died so soon. I am hoping that dual oil coolers will hold up |

It’s all aluminum. Any half way decent radiator shop should be able to repair it. It’s a good design otherwise and stuff happens like this with hand fabrication. It can look and test fine when built, but vibration, heat & pressure cycling stress, etc will show itself eventually at a weak point like where maybe it wasn’t fit up or fully welded quite right. It would make a whole lot more sense to fix and keep using it if at all possible.
Afterall, if you had that same attitude about the SC kit it would have been gone a long time ago. That might have made the more sense :p: just joking, sort of ... . |
