Zaino'ed and my paint went dull

First of all, they are not quite related, and I am still so far satisfied about Zaino.

But the fact is after I have spent 5 hours yesterday waxed my car, Z7 and Z2 and then Z6, I realized that there is an arm size of paint in the bottom of the passenger door has dulled.

It went from silky smooth feel from the front fender to a 20 yr-old paint alike feel.
It is hardly noticeable but once you touch it, you know it is bad.

My questions are:
1. Are these covered under warranty, since they are factory paint?
2. If it doesn't cover under warranty, do I need to repaint it or have some detail professional to take care of it, and what's the different in the outcome?

I did search, there is a thread in 05 discussed it but no one really gave an answer to it.

P.S I also enclosed some pic of my car after wax..:D

What was your complete process down to what type of towels you used and everything? Something isn't quite right.

I hope you didn't really "wax it" as in put on carnauba wax or other sealants before using Zaino, because it won't work as well.

Also if you didn't properly buff off the Z6 (ie. just applied it, let it sit for over 20 seconds, and maybe even tried to towel it off then, chances are it's dried on to your paint and will leave a hard finish- in that case, Z6 it again)

Now, if you've got paint that was neglected and you want to get it back to good-as-new condition, Zaino won't restore it. You need to use an abrasive cleaner polish first (Zaino has a product for it- ZPC; if not, pick up some Meguiar's paint cleaner polish).

Finally, if that section of paint does not have a clearcoat (like the paint under the hood or trunk), Z2 can't really protect it for long. The finish will oxidize quickly (3 months?). Zaino's Z3 is for that, or just use a (Meguiar's / Mothers) cleaner wax on that section every now and then.

1) what was your EXACT method for applying / removing the zaino. (include times, methods, and materials used)

2) did you claybar beforehand?

3) those pictures absolutely suck. Unless of course, you're just trying to show us how NOT to park within the lines.

4) can we get closeup shots of the paint in question?

5) you sure the paint wasn't messed up before you applied the zaino? Where exactly 'at the bottom of the passenger' door is it?

In addition to Jedi's ? about claybarring it also sounds like you didn't use Dawn. If this was your first application of Zaino than that's a big no-no.

Hey and did you go into the liquor store before or after you Zaino'd? That may have played a big part in your results...

I bought my car brand new and it had never been in a accident...
But I went to the 626 car meet on Saturday and realize the factory paint is kinda quite sucks......(but of course you know about that already, we talked about that in person in the meet )

Alright....
It is a long story...

I claybar-ed 3 months ago (my second wax job) and applied a Z2 wax(with the WFX system, I am not sure about the name but it makes the waxing process faster). I wasn't quite satisfied because I did it under the sun and I thought I was worse than the first time...

And last Friday, which is the third time I wax my car, I just waxed and I did not neither using Dawn wash and clay bar..just used Z7 car wash and then Z2 and Z6....

But I do wash my car regularly(One to twice a week), but I usually drive it one to twice a week too........

I did took some pics, but believe me, it does not look different that regular paint.
But TrochoidMagic did take a look in person and he told me that the clearcoat was gone......(May be you guys can suggest me what to do)

Actually, I wasn't sure the paint wasn't messed up before I applied the zaino.

I realized it has slide door when I was parking, I parked like that not only to avoid door ding, but also to give more room to the van so it won't hit my car when it leave the spot

Just precaution..........

I used dawn couple months ago, even though i think I mess up the waxing process, I afraid using dawn too often will mess up my paint........

the liquor store is not big and not stocked enough to make me drunk j/k

clear coat is gone??? That's definitely not because of the zaino. Zaino is not harsh at all.

How much Z2 did you use? how many drops of ZFX? Did you do one section at a time or apply a coat to the whole car?

i used like 2 ounce of Z2, i know its a bit more than average, but the applicator feel dry all the time. like 8-10 drop of ZFX, i did follow the instruction about this

and I apply a coat to the whole car instead of in sections

p.s. Jedi, sometimes, i really curious to see how you do your wax job when i heard u said u do 2-3 coat in a day...

btw, so if it is not because of clearcoat, it should be some mistake when the factory painted the car, but i think it is not covered under warranty, right?

Do not use dawn (or any other dish soap) after applying zaino. It should only be used prior to the first zaino application.

Definitely do not use Dawn again.. it's meant to remove any trace wax before you Zaino it. Since you're on your n-th coat of Zaino, no more Dawn is needed. Actually, Dawn is probably a bit of a bad idea as it will affect other parts of the car besides the paint (rubber, plastic bits especially). One of the best Zaino how-to guides that used to be online (now taken down, and replaced by Ultima's product page ) advised just doing a Z7 wash followed by the clay bar on the first Zaino application.

As for that paint not having any clear coat, it sounds like a factory defect. If your warranty is still in play, you can go for that. Zaino definitely did not cause that to happen as it just builds up on layers (never shaves off paint- unless it was ZPC you used).

BTW, you're using a bit too much ZFX for 2oz of Zaino.. should only be 3-5 drops. Won't do any harm, but you're kinda wasting it.
