Question Waxing a black 8

Hey Everyone,
I've had my 8 for about 4 months now.
It's the first car that I ever bought "new" off the lot.
I'm pretty **** about trying to keep the exterior perfect.
I wash the car "touchless" quite often and have never used a sponge or lambswool to clean it since any contact with the paint will cause some scratches regardless of intent.

I'm now at the point where I wish to clean it thoroughly and apply a nice wax/polish to the car.

What have you guys found to be successful in regards to shine without paint damage?

As a former FD owner I see that Zaino has already infiltrated this topic. What other options are available and what are the success stories.

This is my 3rd black car and I know that it is quite a PITA but I just want to find the best and easiest way to shine it up.

I've used Zymol in the past on black cars and loved it except for the fact that it was a "tough" application and only lasted a few weeks.

Is Zaino the only way to go?

Thoughts?

Gary

My 8 is black also and the best thing I have found once you get it waxed is to use the California Car Duster on it regularly. If you keep the dust off of it you can go a long time between washings.
As for wax, I haven't found the perfect solution yet, so I think I will go for the Zaino this spring. Looks like its the favorite around here hands down!

I'd have to say Zaino all the way. I have a Black 8 as well. See pics in the following threads

Congrats on your car!

Zaino is probably the easiest for the amount of work it takes. I am just like you I have tried most everything. It takes forever to get wax off of a black car so it looks right, Zaino is easier.

I used to use Klasse all-in-one on my Audi with a liqdui carnuba on top (Pinnacle). This was nice, but the carnuba did not last long.

With the 8 I started with Klasse and have since switched to Autoglym resin polish and a coat of the Autoglym wax on top of that. I have been very happy with this. It was easy to apply (30 minutes each total on and off, taking my time) amd it is supposed to last 4-6 months.

Either Klasse or Autoglym will be great. Zaino seemed like too much work and expense. And besides, if the Queen uses Autoglym for her fleet of Rolls', then it is good enough for me.

Skip everything, and use the newest Meguiar's NXT. One step, easy on, easy off....basically the same as Zaino (polymer), except it has a deeper shine (perfect for dark cars), easier to apply, cheaper, more available....sorry guys...zaino is over rated and gone. Don't get me wrong, I used to be a zaino user when I had my FD, and S2000, but I prefer the new NXT.

I have the NXT and its good, but it doesn't last very long. Now whether that matter to you is different for everyone. If you plan on waxing each week or two etc, no big deal then.

Secondly, the NXT doesn't look much different (chemically speaking) from their previous products if you look at the ingredients. BTW, I am not knocking the product, it puts out a great shine and is very easy to apply.

Finally, I have no personal comparison to Zaino *yet* as I haven't used it (just bought it, plan on zaino-ing this weekend).

Your results may vary. Lather, rinse, repeat ...

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all of the suggestions.
I was hoping that Zaino would not be the overall winner but I suppose I will break down and buy it.

The pics are great also! They remind me why I bought another black car!

Zaino is so popular because its a very good product. A lot of people love the product probably because of the amount of work they put to zaino their cars. I've been a zaino fan for a long time but it really isn't the god of waxes and sealants. One thing i don't like about zaino is it attracts dust like magnet. I don't use zaino anymore because i've found other products that is easier to use and gives same outstanding results just like zaino. I also vote for meguiars NXT tech wax. It makes your paint look richer/darker than zaino will. Durability may be less than zaino though. If you want something that is really easy to use that will give your black 8 a very glassy look, check out http://www.crystalguard.com. It's a bit expensive but WOW!!! It'll make your 8 looks very reflective. It really looks like it has a layer of glass on top of your paint. Much better looking than zaino IMHO.

hi guys
i 'd love to wax my black 8 for first time
a few questions...

is waxing harmful for the color of the car by any meaning?

i saw here many of you use zaino....
i had a look in zaino's website but i saw there a lot of products.

which one is the best just for shinning?

how long it lasts?
i heard that it attracts dust as a magnet...is it true?

I'm a noob to the forum but have been taking care of dark-colored cars seemingly forever. I've been using BlackFire for a few years now, and haven't found anything that looks deeper AND lasts longer. Pretty easy to work with, just make sure you're out of the sun and you don't use too much.

Get it here: ProperAutoCare

Good luck!

On dark colored cars you can just use z5 and on light colored cars z2. you also should get the z6 qd because it really compliments the zaino and enhances it's shine. As for dust magnet, it does attract dust more than some other product's i've used. It does seem to go away after you're first wash and after qding with the z6.
