Rust on Lugnuts!>?!?!?

I finally drove my car yesterday after almost a month! (great fun-we had three huge snow storms here in a row -the triplets they are calling it) the car was garaged and covered the whole time- with a fresh wash on her prior to the short storage- anyhow- was horrified to find all the lugnuts RUSTING yesterday when I drove her!!! anyone else experience this yet>?

You're welcome. No rust on my lug nuts. Are you somewhere where they salt the roads, or do you live a block from the beach, or something?

yes they salt the roads- but I rarely drive this thing in the winter- and had just had it washed before I garaged it anyhow, think I will try some aftermarket lugnuts- maybe black ones. and by the way I WISH I lived by the beach!

cardinal35 - where exactly is the rust? I thought the lug nuts were chromed. They shouldn't rust. My brake rotor has some rust on it (that has been discussed in several threads), but I don't recall anything about lug nuts.

it seems as though from them torqueing the lugnuts on it maybe took off some of the chroming or something- that is where the rust is adhering too upon closer examination (I just went out to the parking lot to check) this sux- I don't even have rust on my rotors yet (the place where everyone else is getting it) so I must not be in contact with too much salt>?

I had one lugnut on the driver side front wheel begin to rust on the outer edges....took it to the dealer, got a new one. NO problem. That was in December....I have another one beginning to rust on the passenger rear....will take it in.....Warranty. Might try to get all replaced while I'm there.

i also noticed a little on the lugnuts the last time i washed the car.

and rust on your rotors is normal. to get rid of it just go out and do some hard braking.
