I dont know about black, but I just bought the lower level kit and it worked great on my titanium gray.

First, I washed with Dawn to help break down the old wax. Claybar'd everything, spritzing with some Zaino wash and water mix. Washed again with Z-7. Polished with Z-5 then wiped, sprayed on a coat of Z6 & wiped. Waxed with Z-2, wiped then more Z-6.

Z6 is the spray - use after every car wash and between coats of polish
Z5 is the polish for covering small scratches and swirl marks
Z2 is the polish for the "final" coat, or if the car has no scratches or swirl marks.
ZFX is an accellerator to mix with Z2/Z5 to help it dry quicker (highly recommended).

Z2 and Z5 can be used interchangeably - but I always try to end with Z2.

To start - wash car with Dawn and HOT water - this will strip the old wax
Using a spray or another layer of soap (the Z6 works well here) for lubrication, claybar the paint according to the instructions.
Rewash car and dry thoroughly
Mix ZFX and Z2/Z5
Spray a coat of Z6 as per directions
LIGHTLY coat the car with Z2/Z5
Remove after drying - not long with ZFX - I have had the beginning completely dry when I finished the application
Spray a coat of Z6 as per directions
Repeat coats of Z2/Z5 and Z6

You will be amazed - and from this point on, you never have to remove the old polish. It is intended to be layered and will only look better with time. The biggest mistake is that people will use too much polish. This will not give the best shine - a two ounce container (the ZFX comes with two ounce mixing bottles) can do my RX-8 three times.

After the initial "treatment", I can polish my 8 in about 30 minutes. Car is almost 18 months old, and it has 12 coats on it today.

My wifes car is dark blue, and there are pictures of her car "Zainoed" in the "2005 Mazda 6s 5-Door" album at the link in my signature. She has only had the car 4 weeks, and we did the above procedure the weekend before last.

You'll love it.

Everything tpryor said...however, since you have black, have you noticed any swirl marks or fine scratches on the painted surface of your car? Tends to do with how new your car is. If you notice them, use the Z5 over the Z2 for the first three coats, will "conceal" the marks/scratches better than Z2. Yet, if your car is brand new, just go with the Z2.

Also, definitely consider using the slightly more expensive ZFX over Z1...the ZFX/Z2 (or ZFX/Z5) mixture is really superb

Try not to do everything in one day...too much work! Wash and clay the car on day one to remove the surface contaminents and then the next day give it a light cleaning and then jump into three coats of the ZFX mix using Z6 after each buff. It's a heck of a lot to accomplish all in one day, but if you break it into two days then much easier.

Last point, the applicator is also important. I use the Zaino applicator which is just 100% cotton towel material tightly wrapped around a sponge.

Good luck...post some pix when you're done

If you go to the Zaino website, the FAQ tells you what you need to get started.
