Product to keep the exhaust tips clean?

Anyone know of any product that could help keep the exhaust tips clean? I'm tired of wiping them down practically ever day to keep them from turning black.

Go to Walmart and pick up some Neverdull. Works great. Comes in a silver can.

That stuff is great!! It is some sort of cotton-like fibers impregnated with a solution that just melts off the gunk. Makes the pipes look like new.

TyrellCorpNexus8 11-27-2004 03:16 AM

Neverdull? LOL. Are you serious or joking?

Serious. It's good stuff.

poolsidenaz 11-27-2004 10:36 AM

Another vote for Nevr Dull here. What is that stuff in those fibers anyway?

Mr. Ed's rx-8 11-27-2004 11:00 AM

works great on my greddy tips...smells strong but works great!

Rob Tomlin 11-27-2004 11:15 AM

Yet another vote for the Never Dull. Great little product.

r8ped8 11-27-2004 01:02 PM

I have read where some folks use some kind of 'purple' oil that really eliminates the soot from forming?
Gary

IZoomZoomI 11-27-2004 01:55 PM

if you wipe your exhaust with a towel daily before you drive off the soot on the tips really isn't that bad. I don't use anything special, but I make sure I wipe mine daily so it wouldn't dry up and settle.

EyeBall Fixer...(o)(x) 11-27-2004 02:23 PM

Man! I haven't seen that stuff forever!
Never Dull has probably been around for 40+ years.
I used it while in the Navy (early 70's) to clean copper and brass.

After I wash my wheels with brake dust remover,
I use the same rag to clean my exhaust tips.
It works pretty good for me.

loco4rx8 11-27-2004 05:02 PM

Yep, Nevr Dull is some good stuff. It gets those little specks of black that sometimes form o the outside of the tips off easily, too.

Hellbreed 11-27-2004 06:08 PM

I've used that for ages aswell, I still have my original can from 10 years ago as a little goes a long way! It's also great for removing that tar that looks like silly string that gets on the bottom of the fenders at times, it takes it off in seconds then I follow with a soapy wash down. Doesn't matter how long that soot stays on the tail pipe it will take it off in no time.

And it is ridiculously cheap too. That is less than $0.50 per year for shiny clean chrome. No scrubbing required either.

rx-8_or_? 11-27-2004 08:40 PM

Nevr-Dull On Wheels?

Has anyone tried using it on wheels to keep brake-dust off?

RX Renesis 11-27-2004 09:11 PM

how does a muffuler tip look like with soot on it?

bmcc49er 11-27-2004 10:41 PM

Never Dull

XDEEDUBBX 11-28-2004 01:16 AM

soap and water for me..my tips are as shiny as the day they came off the boat..also oven cleaner works too

TheColonel 11-28-2004 01:54 AM

Awesome, I'll try this nevr dull.

Thanks

rxeightr 11-28-2004 08:14 AM

Is the NeverDull product found in the Automotive section of Wal-Mart ?

Yup, Never Dull is awesome. When I was in the Army we used it for just about everything from polishing the fire hose fittings in the hallways to the brass buttons on our uniforms. It works miracles for making any metal look new.

I used never dull until I tried Blue Magic metal polish. It makes them SHINE!!! I use it on all metal on my cars at shows.

Never dull is not powerful enough. Blue magic takes a little while longer but it works much better IMO.

IZoomZoomI 11-29-2004 12:14 AM

^^^ i've used that too, but i've found that it leaves a coat that fuzzes up the shine. Maybe i'm not applying it right.

You have to rub it in until it hazes up and turns a dark grey to black color. Let it dry for a couple of mins and buff off. You may have to do it a couple of times if your pipes are really dirty.

chad 11-30-2004 03:08 AM

Mothers chrome polish here...

markd 11-30-2004 09:55 PM

I'm using some Blue Magic chrome polish, and while it gets the tips nice and shiny, it soots up relatively quickly. If Nevr Dull reduces that problem, I'd be willing to try it, although I have a feeling our engines just produce that much heat/exhaust.

dobe_dad 12-18-2004 09:37 AM

I just got some Nevr Dull - thanks for the tip, it works great. I was able to find it at the Advance Auto Parts near me. Probably more than Wal-Mart, but I'd pay double to be able to avoid that parking lot especially around the holidays!

flip 12-19-2004 09:08 AM

Never Dull, Blue Magic, Mothers polish.. or any other metal polish/cleaner works good.

mysql101 12-19-2004 09:15 AM

put me down for neverdull as well. It's not a paste, it's some sort of fiber stuff that has a coating that you rub onto metal. It rubs out the grime instantly. You just rip some out of the container and work the exhaust, only takes about 30 seconds to do both, then wipe the exhaust clean with a shop rag.

RX-Nut 12-19-2004 05:06 PM

Does it work when your tips turn blue from heat?

valpac 12-19-2004 08:53 PM

Man, I used a ton of that sh*t (Nevrdull) in the Navy years ago. Hated using it to shine brightwork then, love using it now.

markd 12-20-2004 01:58 AM

Sounds like you and RX8_MD (post #12) have a similar background here...

bgard 01-06-2005 08:14 AM

What's a better choice for polishing chrome wheels? NevrDull or Blue Magic?? Thanks

markd 01-06-2005 12:14 PM

I'm using Blue Magic, but only b/c someone in my family bought the bottle. Everyone here seems to have a fondness for NevrDull, so I would probably go with that. Unless there's something super-magical about it, they all sound like they work similarly, though. G'luck. BTW, welcome to the forum.

foxman 01-06-2005 12:37 PM

nevrdull works great on stainless steel tips also helps to keep the from turning that burnished color

LiL BenNy 03-30-2005 08:18 PM

are you guys talking about inside and outside of the tips or jus the outside....

porschegeorg 03-31-2005 09:42 AM

I use Collinite #845 Insulator wax on both the tips (inside and out) and on the rims. It cleans AND protects.

markd 03-31-2005 11:48 AM

Both. It looks sloppy just to clean the outside and not the inside.

SpinninAgain! 04-01-2005 02:46 PM

Someone posted here recently that after cleaning their exhaust tips, inside and out, they followed with a coat or two of the same Zaino protectant they use on their paint.

I haven't tried it but I intend to. Zaino Z-2, Z-3 and Z-5 are very resistant to picking up dirt. Most stuff just slides right off. I've never had a car stay as clean as my Zainoed RX8.

I don't know how it'll withstand the heat, but even if it ignites it'll look pretty cool on the highway! ;)

Guys I used Nevr Dull as suggested and while it did remove 90% of the soot on my tips - there were still little spots of soot that it didnt seem to have any affect on. Keep in mind that Im the typeof lazy sonof abitch that lets the soot build up on thetips for months w/o ever properly addressing them w/stuff like Nevr Dull. Could it be that some spots of my tips are just too stained for Nevr Dull to quell or isthere something Im not doing right? Its not reallya big deal b/c finally for once in my cars existence you can see more chrome than soot on the tips - but I was just under the impression that Nevr Dull was going to take care of everything.

Mindtrip 04-11-2005 12:23 AM

I use the same stuff and didnt do too much. I let mine set for a long too although I would wash them when i did the car.

ALWAZL8 04-11-2005 01:07 PM

Can these products also be used on strakes?

zoom44 04-11-2005 02:15 PM

never dull is what i used in the USMC to clean my brass. good stuff. highly recommend it.

Hey guys, because of your suggestions on this product, I decided to give it a go. It's hella cheap so I figure, if it sucked, no big deal. Anyways, I'm quite happy with the results. The pics don't quite do the exhaust justice but regarless, works nicely.

alleycatinheaven 04-11-2005 08:26 PM

I used some Back to Black on the trim today and it looks better than new!

Blue, that looks really good. I'm using some Blue Magic stuff, I think is the brand, but am anxious to try NevrDull when I finish my current bottle.
