Odd paint chip repair

I recently bought a 40th anniversary and am working on fixing some cosmetic issues. As you can see in the pictures, the car has some damage to the protective sticker/bra under the rear passenger door. The pictures aren't that great, there isn't all that brown there, it's just the protective plastic and a regular looking chip and scratch underneath.

Any suggestions how to fix it?

Right now, my plan is to trim away the excess plastic/sticker with a razor blade, then do the best I can with touch up paint. I've got a Langka kit for another chip, but I'm worried it will dissolve/discolor the remaining protective sticker.

I'm also thinking about trying to use a ton of clear coat to make it flush with the sticker when it's done. Big mistake?

Sounds like a good plan to me. Hard to really say with blurry pics.
