Missing inserts

OK, there used to be two little black "foamy" disks in the bottom of each cupholder in the front center console. Yesterday I noticed that they are gone!

I surmise that they got stuck to the bottom of my frozen mocha (with whipped cream) cup, and when I pitched the empty cups, the disks went into the dumpster with them.

Hell and damn!

But this gives me an opportunity to come up with a better mousetrap. I'm thinking of cutting new ones from a similar foam, but lining the bottom with Mylar "space blanket" material, to further insulate the cup from the heat below.

Any other ideas? Anybody else accidentally throw their cupholder pads away?

I was missing one the other day and found it on my backseat. *shrug* Anyone know why those damned things aren't glued down? Speaking of which...is there a spare set in the rear cupholder?

Does that really bother you? Can't you find something else to complain about?

The dealer finally found the part number. I've ordered 6 replacements, they are supposed to be here by Tuesday. As soon as I have them, I'll post the Mazda part number. They're not cheap, they charged me $1.75 each.

I was going to cut some new ones from Sorbothane... I have a sheet in the workshop, but I'm too **** to have non-Mazda disks in there.

I do like the insulation idea. I have some of those emergency mylar "space blankets" in the camping supplies that would work just fine.

The funny part is, I don't even take drinks in the 8 anymore. My elbow always hit them when shifting.

JT: it's why I only put drinks in the REAR cup holders. Long arms FTW.

Why? I'm the most normal guy on this forum.

I tried the rear cup-holders. I can reach them, but it's not convenient.

I broke the habit of having a Big Gulp or mocha java with me whenever I'm driving anyway.

I haven't taken my 8 on a long road-trip yet, so when I do I might have to actually take a beverage on-board again, but until then it's a dry Mazda. With stock cupholder inserts...

OK, the Mazda part number for the inserts is:

F154-64-449 MAT, CONSOLE List $4.20 Net $1.75 ea.

This time I'm sticking them in with double-sided tape. And I got spares just in case.

And I don't know why I originally posted this in the Lounge.

Many thanks!

It doesn't get much more picky than this, does it.
