How to remove soot from exhaust?

Whats the best cleaning agent to remove soot from the exhaust tips without damaging the finsh?

MazdaManiac 08-18-2007 07:26 PM

All-wheel cleaner and a nylon brush.

DarkBrew 08-18-2007 07:26 PM

I use water and a cloth to remove soot.
I also use English Custom Chrome Polish and hot environment polish to remove any oxidation

yea i would think that enough water and elbow grease would do it but it doesnt. What about mineral spirits? Would that hurt anything?

You could start to Pre-Mix and not have to deal with the soot anymore. A title only search for premix will return a few days worth of interesting reading.

fuel injector cleaner every 3-4 oil changes keep my soot away
clean it up once and give it a coat of wax. any soot comes off with just a quick swipe for me.

+1 for Nevr Dull. Amazing stuff, can be used for other things, and reasonably priced.

I have been using Eagle one Nano_Polish with anticorrosion for about two years and had no problem since. Been working good for me.

dbright007 08-23-2007 12:41 AM

Eagle One - Never dull wadding.

I just used it on an exhaust tip for a 10 yr old car thats exhaust was black with crap. Looks like new now.

stuartm 08-23-2007 11:57 AM

MrSuicideDoor 08-23-2007 12:08 PM

mysql101 08-23-2007 04:49 PM

yeah, nevr dull works well.

right now i don't even clean my tips. damn coffee can ti tips have nothing to clean.

templar99 09-08-2007 06:54 AM

Turtle Wax

I use Turtle Wax chrome polish. It's cheap, removes the carbon crud, and makes those exhaust tips really shine!

RWatters 09-23-2007 06:21 AM

I've never been a huge fan of Never Dull, myself.

I LOVE Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish. It took the 4-year-old, black, exhaust tips on my RX-8 and with some elbow grease made them look brand new. Hell, I bet you could turn your child's head chrome with this stuff if you polish at it enough! :lol2:

Ericok 09-23-2007 09:06 AM

Mr Clean's Magic Eraser and water if it's just soot.

Jedi54 09-24-2007 06:48 PM

English Custom Polish.

dying_here 09-24-2007 08:41 PM

I use autoglym metal polish, amazing stuff

Razz1 09-24-2007 11:36 PM

the black soot should come off with almost anything.

It's wheter you want it to be chrome or Gold.

Brettus 09-24-2007 11:44 PM

I guess there is no way to get rid of the discoulouration from heat on my TI tips?

Razz1 09-25-2007 10:49 AM

Ah... you may get rid of it for awhile, but eventually the metal will turn permantly due to the thickness of the metal and it properties.
