How about a thread on CrystalGuard?

Since they're now sponsoring this forum, I'd really like to see how they compare to Zaino et.al. ...

I will be able to let you all know in a few weeks once I get my kit and put it on. I currently use Meguirs Professional and have used it for many years. Now I gotta go out and buy an air compressor and HVLP gun to shoot it on, DAMN. If I like the product I am going to start being the St. Louis rep for it. I will post lots of pics.

You don't have to use the spray gun as shown in our instructional video. It is easier and less time consuming, but not necessary. You can apply the product with a clean application sponge as an alternative. It takes longer, but works fine.

is this stuff like a sealant you would get at a car dealer for $300 and suppose to last for 3 years, or a regular wax (ok its a polymer) you have to do every 6 months or so??

No sealant lasts 3 years. The warranty just covers reapplication of the product when necessary at dealerships. Ours works in a similar fashion. If you apply the Pro or Ex coat it will last about a year, give or take your driving conditions. If you maintaint the orginal coat with CG Quick it can last much longer. CG Quick is designed as a replenishing product which you should apply every three months or so (or as often as you like if you're a layering kind of person). CG Quick is very easy to use, simply wash your car with the chemical...I hope that helps...

Some people use the Quick by itself....

I was being sarcastic. I have been wanting to buy a compressor for a while but really did not have the need for one, but now that I "need" one, I will go out and buy one. My room mate is going to lend me his HVLP to shoot the stuff with.

Please post the pics when you get the chance. Have been looking through the CrystalGuard website and the product sounds very interesting. I'm currently using the Klasse line of prducts to shine and protect my 8's finish. I'd really be interested to see how CG compares as to shine, protection, and most importantly, ease of use.

Good luck!! :D

Cool CrystalGuard'ed Green in the sun

I didn't see much CG'd cars pictured here yet, so here is mine.
It was the car's first day out, so I took the opportunity to take those Greenish pictures :D

I must say I like the result of this product.
I applied this by myself : 2x base coat + 1x top coat :p , and took 3 weeks for that... Talk about being patient

I assume you wait between coats quite a bit. You can do the whole application in a day. Did you wait between the two base coats?

Hi Jim,

Yes, I can do the whole application in a day, but I had to do that following the dealer's space availability and my disponibility. I was not in a hurry and the car was still waiting there for an insurance before leaving.

Between the two base coats, I waited two full weeks, and the top coat was applied the next day

I'm planning to add a second top coat with the next wash in about a month...

For the time being, putting aside that I took a long time to apply it, I'm happy with the product. I looks really hard, and I like the added gloss

just make sure you don't use the primer again or it will remove the previous layers and your time and effort. I'm glad to here you're happy with the finish...

Of course, and to be sure about that, I don't have any Primer left (the whole bottle was spent on the first step; I had no good sprayer to begin with )

Btw, as the sprayer I used thereafter had still too much airflow, for the 2nd base coat and the top coat, I diluted the product in a mix of "pure" water and ethanol (you name it : Vodka ! :D ).
I guess it was a good choice, as the applications were OK, still...

Otoh, as I have still 3 fuzzy spots under the coat, I'll redo the whole thing in about a year... :o

Interesting mixture selection. People never fail to amaze me...I would have suggested a clean sponge to apply. The chemicals actually are better used that way than the gun. The spray gun tends to be wasteful. You can sometimes get three coats out of the bottle with a sponge...

Yeah, I knew about you advising to use a sponge, but I feared I would rather wipe the "glass fibers" out, or even catch some dirt and make some unwanted scratches...

Though, if I had a better understanding on how your product polymerises itself on the car's surface, I would have acted more thoughtfully (I used to be a chemist, so you can embarass me with details )

Yes, the spray gun is wasteful, but it's so easy to use

Btw, am I the only one using it by myself, and talking about it ?
Where are the other CG addicts ?

I gave out some sample kits, but no one has really posted any results. Kind of disappointing when you give stuff away for free. I expect some reviews shortly, though. We are new to this forum so until others try it, you're our leading advocate

I recommend you maintain with CG Quick...that stuff is an amazing gloass enhancer and simple to apply...won't take you days like last time lol

Indeed, that's the plan.
And when the bottle of the kit gets empty, I'll try your newer, water-repellant formula

The new formula is amazing stuff. I can't get over the gloss and how the water just evaporates off the paint..like RainX for you paint.

I actually would encourage the RX8 community to check out the forums on www/g35driver.com. There are many avid users on that site and really understand how CG works and the benefits. I'm hoping we get a few others on this site to try the product out.

I think I'll order your new CGQuick soon, as the sample that come with my Pro package is, well, small

FYI, yesterday I looked closely at my front bumper to try to find paint chips after my first trips.
Amongst the crushed insects, I saw some small white stripes, as if some small stones hit the paint and scratched it.
But I passed my thumb over it and they were gone. it's as if the stones left some traces of their own material, but CG was strong enough to withstand the scratch :D

I'm definitely interested, and have been planning on getting this done for the past month(s), but due to the fact that I live in Northern CA, the full day application is kind of a pain. Just trying to finally coordinate someone who lives down there schedule with mine.

Unless of course you want to loan out one of those cars in your showroom...I wouldn't mind driving that around for the day.

*sigh*

I appreciate all your feedback, and your offer for the discount in the other thread. I definitely mean to take you up on it as soon as I can. Its just been a huge hassle to try and coordinate something, especially since I work 2 Saturdays a month.

Just don't want you to think I'm jerking your chain.

Question Hot water ?

Jim, a quick question.

How does CG stand hot water when rinsing the car ?

I ask, because in my garage I have 2 water taps, one cold and one hot.
The cold is plain hard city water , while the hot water comes from the boiler that is filled with softened/filtered water, which I thought would leave less water marks.

Would the hot water alter the CG coats, or can it stand the treatment ?

I wouldn't worry about either one of them really. CG can withstand 572 degrees. Also, this coating is very hard so water doesn't leave markings. But for the sake of argument, I would use the hot water since its softer water...
