carwash additive: need tips,help

yes i've searched. but no-dice.
so ok, i've "heard" and it sounds pretty logical to use. forgot what or who expert advised that using some LIGHT oil, and very common household oil like olive oil or some veggie oil or what not. you would add that into your carwash soap or your soapy water so its slick and will help to some degree in dragging loose dirt off your car when doing a car wash.

now my question is: what kind of oil? i forgot if i've seen this in a tv show on car care...i'm sure some experts can help answer this. or someone who looks into advices from experts might... please chime in.

-question two: what kind of wax??? maybe a sealer of some kind??? interested in an all natural carnauba chemical versus a petro product...
but i'm curious as to what people use to make their car look so slippery and wet. and its like when you touch it, its almost got some kind of greasy feel to it and easy to leave finger prints. (is it some kind of lubricant?)

thanks.

^^to add to question two, it looks almost like if armor-all was applied to the paint job. it feels like that, but without the slippery inconsistency of actaully having armor-all on the paint job.

thanks again. i just wanna keep my car free of light swirl marks as much as possible.

Yes, extra-virgin olive oil with a little oregano and basil, toss lightly and leave to mellow.

c'mon...back on topic pls. i'm 100% not bullshitting you. i've heard this does help. it leaves a slippery surface so the dirt will not likely scratch too much as you're doing the wash.

if i can keep applying wax, i wouldn't worry about washing so much from the dust accumulation...soooo....

I know what I'm talking about here to a good extent so I'll chime in with a bit of chemistry knowledge

Soap molecules usually have a polar and non-polar (apolar) side to them, and they clean by surrounding oils and fats (apolar molecules) and orienting their apolar sides to them, then the polar side of the soap is facing the water (polar molecule) and the fat or oil... or the wax on your car in the case of dish soap, is now "water soluble". This is the emulsification effect. The same thing happens in eggs, the whites are insoluble, but the yolk has a emulsifier that allows it to mix with water.

So in theory adding oil to your soap makes sense, you get a more slippery soap, but it's a low power soap that doesn't strip wax, so the soap molecules will bind slightly with the oil but they lack the power to completely surround it and really keep it out. Try it, if worse comes to worse you can just use dish soap to get it off. I think it might add an interesting shine to the car.

downside is that some might stay on your car and mix in the with the wax, wax dries solid, oil doesn't, so you might just make your car into more of a dust magnet, and that dust is going to stick your wax like dirt to a glob of grease. that's just speculation on my part tho.

I'd be very interested to hear what happens when you do it. I might try it on my saturn and see what happens there, it's a beater so I don't care if it gets greasy

high quality modern car wash soap does not need you to add anything to it.

Rinse area of car
Use good microfiber mit with lots of soap
blot on the soap, dont just start making big circles
flip the mit after every application
once car area that you're working on is good and soapy gently rub in straight lines
rinse area of car

i thought someone might know of an actual hidden for professional kinda tip/trick.
well i guess i'm no car care guru and admit it...so maybe its not even worth trying.
but i did try something like that or similar long time ago.
i ran out of car wash and used shampoo with conditioner way back. the soap did not sud up as much. and water seemed to fall right off. although i thoroghly rinsed everything right off with water again...just thought it was interesting.
but don't think there was any different affect.

Go to autopia and read up on how to properly wash a car. That site is full of detailers so if the oil thing is really an issue they can set you straight in a hurry.
