Car Washing

This might seem like a stupid question...

i am kinda new to the car deal and this is my first real car and i want to keep it clean and beautiful. I want to wash my car so it looks awesome all the time but all i know what to do is wet it, soap it, wash it off, dry it. I would like to wash it better and buy some of the stuff to make it look clean but i dont know where to start. My other car was a piece of crap so i just took it to one of those coastal washers to do it for me in 2 minutes. If you have any suggestions tell me or just tell me how you wash your car.

No matter how soft of a sponge you get, they are the devil. They will scratch the surface faster than anything out there minus sandpaper.

100% cotton wash mit or a chenille wash mit. Do not use household dishwashing liquid. It will remove any polish you put on it. Wax too.

A good name brand car wash soap will work fine. I prefer Zaino.
