Bumper sticker removal?

How do I remove stickers off the bumper of my old Honda Civic? I'm trying to get it cleaned up so I can sell it.

If your brave, try some brake cleaner for the stubborn ones.

I've used a product called "Goo Gone" to remove sticker adhesive. It dissolves the glue and removes the residue very well. I have not tried it on a car bumper so YMMV. Good luck.

There's a product called "Sticker Shock" by Klean Strip. Works well.

I know this might hurt the clear coat, and this might be something you only do on glass, but I've been told to use a razor blade (can you tell I don't put bumper stickers on my car? :D). I bet you would do well to use a blade to peel off a small portion of one corner and then use Sticker Shock or Goo Gone to remove the adhesive as you peel it away.

Whoops--on second thought, don't do that. Just checked Autopia for ya. Here is the thread. The product they mentioned, 3M Wax & Adhesive Remover, you can find in the auto spray paint section at Wal-Mart in a little tin can or spray can. I've been experimenting with it for removing the white wax residue from the exterior plastic since someone else on Autopia recommended it for that use. G'luck.

Not sure about old bumper stickers. But I took off the dealer sticker simply by pealing it off slowly. Any glue residue came off with WD40. Then I just cleaned the spot with some soap and water.

im sure you can get "grease&wax remover" or aka. prepsol from those general auto spare part stores.

if its paper stickers, them soak it wil prepsol (put rag soaked with prepsol over it) for a while until you can rub it off with your fingers. then clean it with prepsol until its all gone. then wash it wil your normal car washing liquid. if there is a bit of discolouration, you can polish it to make it look better.

if its vinyl/chrome stickers, and its hard to peel off, you can use the hair dryer, but not too close, and dont use it for too long. the heat will soften the material, makes it easier to peel. again use prepsol to remove all sticky stuff, then wash/polish as required.

NEVER use razor blades on painted surface. windows/windscreens are okay.

good luck

I just got my rx8 and i didn't notice the dealership put a tacky "Lannan Chevrolet, Woburn, Ma" I don't know if it's paper stickers or not, but they are the kind where each individual letter is a standalone sticker. Would the technique you mentioned work on this? If not, would something else? Thanks.

let this be a lesson to you - never put bumper stickers on ANYTHING. I'm sure most people here would agree its one of the most obvious sign of tackiness. Using your rear bumper as some kinda personal billboard is just retarded. Nobody cares if your kid is an honor student at Fucktard elementry, or what your favorite nascar driver is, or even what your favorite local radio station is. Stickers = cheap. And nothing cheap deserves to be associated with this car

Looks like you have gotten some good suggestions already - I would be worried though that even if you did get all the goo and glue off there will still be an obvious sign the sticker was there due to the part covered by the sticker will not have been weathered or looks like its aged, hence probably be lighter/newer looking then the rest of the car.

Cheers,
Jeff

I agree with you mostly "Jeff" (wtf toxin?), but stickers are sometimes acceptable, when tastefully done. i prefer window stickers/decals like the rx8club one polak made. Also, I usually find it fitting when I'll pull up behind some mud-caked blazer and see Moe. stickers on the back or anti-Bush propaganda.

Also, best "sticker" ever was on the back of an old white monte carlo, across the entire rear windshield in 5 inch lettering "My Give A Dam Just Broke!". When I passed this car there were two (count em, 2!) 350 pound women sitting in the front in dirsty tank tops.

I dont think quack would be silly enough to put a bumped sticker on the 8, thats something you do to, well, Hondas.

I am not a fan of bumper stickers in any manner, but do have to say in some cases they provide some entertainment value (as long as they are not on my vehicle).

The best one I have seen was about 10 years ago in the back window (technically not a bumper sticker) of a Caprice stationwagon. It was really bright and grabbed your attention, but had very obscure writing which took several seconds to make out clearly (in essence, it forced you to stare at it for several seconds until you finally figured out what it said). In any case, what it read was "nosy MF, aren't you?".

I use WD40 on all adhesives. It is pretty easy on the paint and I always have it around the garage.

Just let it soak for a bit and all of the adhesive usually gets soft and becomes easy to peel away.

my favorite bumper sticker isn't so great without the story, but still clever. my crazy physics teacher told the class about this one with a really funny story, so it might not seem that great on its own, especially without an understanding of physics... most of you probably wont understand, and its pretty stupid, but some of you might...

anyway, it was a red bumper sticker with black text that said "if this sticker appears green, youre going wayyy too fast"

then we talked about how it might be possible to run red lights and appeal that the light appeared green because you were going so fast... but that excuse might yield a hefty speeding ticket...

Jedi54 would tell you to use Zaino.
