Walnut Ridge National Tour

Ok, so the Zs are leading in BS right now with Hohl/Hammond 1-3 and Kline 2nd by .864 and Hammond .098 back from 2nd. Then in 4th is Eric Jones in the top RX8 .18 behind Hammond. .864 is going to be hard to make up, especially against Hohl, but hopefully, he'll make up against the other two.

Looking at the overall cone count... it looks to be an open course due to the lack of cones people have been hitting... seems kinda low (but that's not a bad thing) :D

Day 2 should prove to be interesting.

In other news...

WTF is a JCW Mini doing beating Flanigan/Rosenburg in DSP (by .436)? Just wait until people start showing up in their 2003 converted JCWs.

I'd like to believe that the 350's had a bit of an advantage but regardless Andy was really fast both days.

Saturday I was trying to fix the poor alignment decision I made earlier in the week. I managed one decent run Saturday and Sunday I just couldn't get any faster. All in all it was a fun weekend. Nice to meet you Eric.

Hollis claims that the course didn't favor the 350Zs but I have my doubts...
Andy & Chris did drive really well and cleaned everybody's clock. :-(

And I think Asher likes the 8 better than his old M3.

I didn't see Hollis driving either a 350Z or an RX8. If I'm not mistaken he was driving a front wheel drive car on street tires. I know you've outrun the blue 350Z so I'd tend to lean towards your oppinion. Unfortunatly I don't think the Pro course favors us either.

Yeppers, I do like the 8 better than the M3 for Solo 2. Although I am a BMW fan at heart. BMW just doesn't understand that I'm in it for speed, not comfort.

So what kind of course favors a car with a crappy LSD and no front camber?

A power course? Hohl's time was pretty darn fast compared to other classes. Maybe Chris got creative with the a-arms to get more camber (just kidding).

Any course at Walnut Ridge evidently. Andy and Chris went 1 & 2 last year also.

If it was a power course you would think the Lotus would not have been 1 and 2 in SS over the GT3 and Z06.

Some places are funny like that. Seems like every year AS beats SS in San Diego.

Looks like you should have stayed with the BMW, last year you were 3rd 1.4 back and this year in the RX8 you are 4th 1.8 back. Must be a tq course.

Could be the Z boys did not like getting shut out of the trophys at natls...

Very true. That yellow Lotus was smoking fast.

I had about 5k miles on the Koni's so I took the car in to see if I could get more front negative camber and also decided to toe out the rear a tiny bit. It helped the M3 but really made the RX8 oversteer come to find out. My mistake. I'm going to reset it back to the previous setting. So Saturday it was all I could do to keep from spinning the thing.

I think you would agree with me that it was a good choice to go with the RX8 instead of the M3, right? I believe that to be true anyway.

I would say that I drove terrible but I was 3 tenths behind Eric Jones and based on how he placed at Nationals last year, I'd say he's pretty darn good.

Yes I would say you made the right car choice... Now you just have to dial in your setup. I would also guess that Eric will be faster now that his car can turn.

Very good point. There is another variable that might be at play

Hard to call it a power course when the S2000s killed Cashmore in his AS C4, ES Miatas beat up on the faster CS cars and the SS Lotus beat ASP and SM2 Z06s all with good drivers.

Hopefully the RX8 guys will make us proud at the Prosolo.

We're going to try. Just got back from adjusting the rear toe and got another tenth of -camber in the front.

Anyone care to hand out launching tips or Prosolo tips in general? This will be my first Pro Solo.

Really, so there's no need to feather the clutch? I tend to get a bit of wheel hop is there any way to get rid of that or will the extra rmp take care of that?

Most of the challenge with ProSolo is just getting comfortable with how the grids work and how staging and the tree work. If at all possible, get there early enough Friday to get some practice starts so you can get comfortable with that (and figure out what RPM level works for you...likely up in the 7k range ) There should be a novice meeting Saturday morning to discuss how the grids and everything work...make sure you don't miss that.

Once you're familiar with the grid/tree, don't forget that it's just an autocross...the drag strip stuff is a very small part of it...once you launch you still have to drive the course, just like a tour.

See you there...my car will be the loud silver one with the NC "PISTONS?" license plate.

Bryan

Cool Bryan, I look forward to meeting you. I'll be in the other Silver 8. 7k WOW. I'm leaving early Friday morning to work and get in some practice. Thanks for the advice.

Feather the clutch and you will just burn it up.... Try more RPM.

Unless it's wet.

My advice: Don't focus too much on the drag start, focus on driving the course. If you try to get perfect reaction times, you'll end up ruining half your runs with redlights like I did.
