Video of me racing in NASA HPDE-2
Hey all,
I've been working towards competing in NASA once I pass a few more track events in the HPDE program. Right now I've spent just a lot of time fine tuning the car and better understanding the chassis and components. I've done EXTREMELY well in NASA, and was within 6 seconds of the NASA FF Class record holder Tage Evanson, who's been of great help to me in getting my feet wet with real wheel-to-wheel racing. I held my own Time Attack event in AZ this past May, and from there I've been racing whenever I can. We had AEM, Competition Clutch, and Toyota as sponsors, and the event was a great success.
I have my current mods listed below. I'm currently working on a turbo kit for the car, and am addressing other issues I've had with extended racing sessions. The Cobb AP goes in next week!
MODS:
Engine:
* AEM Cold Air Intake
* Greddy Evo II TT Exhaust
* Racing Beat Test Pipe
* Apexi AVC-R Digital Boost Controller (for upcoming turbo kit)
* Apexi RSM-GP Multimeter (for G-load data-logging)
* Motul 5W30 8100 Eco-Energy Racing Oil
* Cobb AccessPort (Installed by 12/7/08)
Transmission:
* Motul 90PA Diff Fluid
* Motul Gear 300 75W90 Transmission Fluid
* Competition Clutch SCC Stage 3 - Segmented Kevlar Clutch (Pending Install)
* Beatrush Transmission and LSD bracing supports (Pending Install)
Suspension:
* Greddy Type-S Coilovers
Brakes:
* Hawk HPS Pads
* Motul RBF600 Brake Fluid
Wheel/Tire:
* TSW Kyalami Wheels
o 18x8 Front, 18x9 Rear
o 40mm/35mm F/R Offset
* Nitto Invo Tires
o 245/40/18 Front
o 275/35/18 Rear
Interior/Exterior:
* APR GTC-200 Adjustable Carbon Fiber Spoiler
* RX-8 Strakes Yellow Headlight/Foglight Films
* DezodWest.com Graphics
* Sparco Ergon Aluminum Shift ****
Here's the video! In one session I held off and pulled on an Aston Martin Vantage, passed an STi, Evo, etc. Some of those on the following video. Hopefully this brings hope to the racing hopefuls out there wondering if their car is track worthy (which I think no one disputes at this point). Let me know what you think, and if you have any questions post up.

Yeah on the next event I'll be moving the camera to a different position in hopes for a better view. I put that mount in the night before the event and didn't have too much time to play around with it.
In terms of terminology, my bad. I know it's similar but I haven't quite got to road racing yet. I hope to be more competitive in the future, and get into the road race scene.

Hopefully I can push it harder soon. I'm ordering the Beatrush braces for the tranny and diff. Mishimoto is sending me a new radiator soon, among quite a few other mods before the turbo.
Hopefully I can give you guys a lot more videos soon.

I started in 3rd on the grid, passed the WRX, and the Vette and I lapped a few times, eventually catching up to the back of the pack and passing the back 4-8 cars or so, depending on the session. My car does REALLY well on that track, for it doesn't require all out horsepower.

Both systems include mounts which makes install a breeze. Both after multiple months of use remain extremely easy to adjust, though the locking ring at the base seems to hold better on the Teins.
I think the Greddy Type-S is a great coilover for the RX-8. I have next to no body roll with stock sways and my ride quality remains excellent. I'm sure Flex is up there, but I wanted to try something different. Greddy also sells custom spring rate upgrades if you wish to get a full track setup on the same coilover.
Let me know if you want more info!

Once we make it into the new year I should be at about 80% of the events. Good luck at PIR though! Represent for AZMC.

Meanwhile, you can watch this video of me turning in a race-rubber time on street tires at Willow last month.
Might pick up thing or two!

The BMW was pissing me off (though the driver is a really nice guy - he just wasn't paying attention). The 'Teg got a half lap on me by the time I got around the Bimmer after he nearly spun on the carousel before the straight leading to the chicane (look how far outside he is on the exit).
I was also sand-bagging the straights a bit to keep the motor cool (it was almost 100°F by the time I got to this session). The straights are short at the Streets, so not much time lost there.
I got to play with the 'Teg in a later session. Stripped-out race car on race rubber.
I think he turned the fastest time of the day - just less than 2 seconds faster than my fastest on street tires and a full interior (with Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" blastin on the Bose. lol).

I love it. I've driven on multiple sets of Tein coilovers, H&R Coilovers, an Apexi coilover setup, Hiyame, and I THINK that covers it.
The Greddys and HRs are definitely my favorite ones. Tein has a great perch system that seems to lock/tighten the best. I love the handling of my Greddy and ride of the Greddy over my Tein setup. Seems to have less roll with better daily driving comfort (with the right damper setting of course).

Yeah the track had a couple rough spots but I like it. It keeps you pretty alert and I think it helped me learn the limits of the car for when bumps throw it off slightly.
For example, at the end of that straight there's a hard left, as seen in the video. On my first session I would understeer a bit due to an over-dampened setup. I was running only 4 clicks from the hardest setting up front. I softened it up a few clicks and it helped give me extra traction, which allowed me to push the car a little harder on the turn.
Either way its a pretty fun course that wasn't too hard on the brakes and allowed me to push the car without taking the chance of too many walls. I was hooked once I ran the time attack session. Once the holidays pass and my day job slows down I'll be going to the track a LOT and will be posting up a lot more vids and info.
Thanks for the compliments!
