Track Tires

I just purchased a set of Enkei RPF1, 17x7 +40. I have a S2000 and looking to swap tires/wheels on the 8. Which tire size will work for both cars?

I'm currently looking at Potenza RE-71 at

Size: 255/40R17 98W XL.

My car is stock height at the moment but looking to upgrade to ohlins very soon.

Let me know.

Thanks,

So, what are you asking?

I mean, you ask a question but then you answer it, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Will 17x7 +40 wheels fit on my rx8? I thought it needs to be 17x9 +40?

The tires will fit, but don't the S2000's like bigger rear rubber than front? AP1 or AP2?
Also whether or not 255 will rub depends a lot on the offset of the wheels. Low offset = much rubbing.

Wait 17x7? There's no way you're going to fit a 255 tire on a 7" wheel.

Yes, 17x7 +40 should fit and you might even find a tire installer able to get 255 to fit on 17x7 but you should definitely consider going to 17x9 all around if you want 255/40-17.

Wait, why did you change from 17x9 to 17x7? Which do you actually have?

If it's actually 17x7, then you probably want to limit yourself to 225 but you're going to have trouble finding tires in the appropriate 225/55-17 size to keep the speedo accurate.

Code:
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
225/45-18 4.0in 13.0in 26.0in 81.6in 777 0.0%
225/55-17 4.9in 13.4in 26.7in 84.0in 754 3.0%
225/50-17 4.4in 12.9in 25.9in 81.2in 780 -0.4%
225/45-17 4.0in 12.5in 25.0in 78.5in 808 -3.9%
224/45-17 will work but your speedo will read almost 4% higher than your actual speed.

Why not? B-Street/C-Street guys were running 285 on the OE rims. It wasn't ideal but you do what you gotta do within the limitations of the rules.
