thats good to know

A fellow racer let me borrow a Speedway front sway bar that he's not using. Going to clean it up and get new end links for it after I make sure the fitment is good. I forgot what a pain it was to remove the front sway bar. The bar is 1.25" diameter and .19" thick. I'll also need to relocate the brake line a little and the brake duct hose.

Looks like maybe you had the Progress front bar on it previously? That has 0.25” wall thickness on it. So you may need to adjust to the stiffer end link holes to get the balance back or possibly change to the 0.25” bar.

you're right, my old bar is Progress .25" thick. i'll look into getting Speedway .25" bar after i do some testing with this one.

Got the motor freshened up over the winter at Rotor Piston Motorsports in Maryland. They are an hour drive from my house, so it's convenient to get to. Also got side clearance on the rotors and Dynamic balance done.

Got BHR new plug and play coils after TeamRx8 mentioned them to me. 5 years warranty is pretty sweet for a race part.

Got the car dyno after putting 300 street miles on the rebuilt engine.

Here's the difference between unrestricted and detuned for NASA ST5 class. My submission for NASA ST5 is 196 Average WHP. this dyno did make about 5 whp lower than the one at the track. So I had to make some adjustment to the tune at the track.

it's been awhile since I did anything new to the car. Last week I installed the new Koyo S2 radiator. It's significantly thicker than the S1 radiator and also 2.8 lbs heavier. Installation was pretty straight forward with the exception of modifying two mounting tabs on the passenger side.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...0f4abc7c65.jpg
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...922668e361.jpg

you can see the passenger slide bottom mounting tab doesn't line up

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...6e75e593df.jpg

so i filled in the hole and weld additional material to the side and drill a new hole. i didnt want to cut the tab off and move it because im not comfortable welding aluminum yet and didnt want to burn a hole in the radiator.

for the upper passenger side, i made a bracket and bolted that to the fan shroud. pretty simple.

fan shroud completed mounted.

looks good, but kind of surprised you’d still be running the OE fan setup

i had thought about running single aftermarket fan to save some weight. but i decided to not complicate things and run the oem fan for now. i'll probably still do it sometime in the future.

TeamRX8 04-05-2021 03:39 PM

not just that, imo the OE fan shroud inhibits airflow

True, I haven't thought about that. they just release this video.

missed your video update revision, been trying to tell people this for what; 6 or 7 years, at least? Particularly the “block-in the radiator with foam blockheads” that just can’t get it through their thick skulls. The differential pressure comparison difference tells the tale why that’s unnecessary for people who think things through properly.

Maybe you forgot asking me about it a few years ago:

Spicy start to that first race! S2K looked like he wanted to run away early, but you weren't gonna let that happen

Enjoyed that. That S2000 was aggressive. Watching these makes me miss my car so much.
