Took my rx8 to the track today
Hello everyone. So as the title says I took my rx8 to the track today. Went to Maplegrove drag strip in PA. First time doing drag racing with a rx8, previously I did time attacks at the road courses in Englishtown NJ and Pocono Raceway in PA. And for my first drag race in this car I must say this thing is SLOW. I did 5 runs in the 8, consistently running around 16.8 to 16.5. My car is almost stock with only the racing beat revi intake and hks hi-power exhaust with the racing beat non-resonated midpipe. I ran my 93 rx7 out there and consistently ran around mid 13s on just the racing beat intake and exhaust, stock twins and stock tune. Now I gotta ask cuz I've felt this way for a bit now, but I always felt like my rx8 ran quicker with the stock cat, than with the midpipe, I attribute this to my slow track times considering I've seen stock rx8s run 14.5-14.8 usually on just intakes and exhaust. Unless my reaction time is that crappy, idk how I consistently have correct numbers for my near bone stock FD and horrible numbers for the 8. Are my mods killing my times?

Wrong tool for the job. The 8 is not a fast straight line car and was never meant to be. It's fast on a tight twisty course or, better yet, tight and twisty real roads, where it's a speed demon. But on a drag strip or stoplight to stoplight? Forget it.

I completely agree I've never taken the 8 to a drag strip before so this was very enlightening to me. Funny cuz my 8 usually does just a tad bit better than my FD does on the E-town road course in lap times. This is my 3rd rx8 and the first to see drag racing. My 60' time was 2.633 on my best run, with a. 376 reaction time on launch. Final time on the ticket was 16.566 at 86 mph.

What RPM are you launching at? 2.6 60' time is pretty slow, it's not setting you up for a win. Could be helped by launching higher (obviously don't expect your clutch to like it.
What RPM are you shifting at? The tach is a bit off, so 9000 indicated is about 8600 actual.

That's what I thought, especially since my fd which is still bone stock pretty much can run mid to low 13s, no bridgeports or turbo swap. I do plan to do another compression test on my engine soon to make sure it isn't failing but it's been very healthy since I bought it earlier this year. Otherwise I never would have brought it to the track.
