Thumbs up Targa Newfoundland (Dial-Up modems beware!)

Well I am a little late on informing you guys about this. Every year, there is a big tarmac rally that takes place in my province. With each year that goes by, the more entries they recieve from all over the world. This year is no exception. With some very rare and exciting cars such as a 1990 Caterham Super 7,

a 1950 Austin Healey 100,

a 1976 Datsun 280 Z,

a 1985 Mazda RX-7,

a 1994 Toyota Supra Twin turbo

a 2004 Subaru WRX STi

and last but most certainly not least, a 2004 Mazda RX-8 is among the entries!

Some of the other notables include, the 2004 Nissan 350 Z, a couple of early Ferarri replicas, and a lot of early and late model Porsches. If these cars make you drool, check out their website here. Click on "2004 Entries", under the title "Home" on the left hand side. Later on tonight there will be a car show/display at the stadium and I am sure going to take lots of pics of the cars and share them with you. Until then, these will have to do. :D

Well I finally have time to show you guys the pics. There is another car show later on tonight, although I doubt if I will go. The whole rally is amazing. Too bad I didn't get any video . A couple things that I didn't know about this year's rally: The RX-8 in the rally had a full Mazdaspeed body kit and spoiler! The 1985 RX-7 in the race was different in colour from the one pictured above. And Jack MacDonnell (aka Suspension Specialist) from Tuner Transformation on Speed Channel was in the rally! He is the driver of a 1976 Datsun 280 Z. I was fortunate enough to be able to get his autogragh and talk to him for a little bit. There were almost too many unbealivable cars under one roof. I was just lucky enough to have been part of the event. Here are some pictures that I took last night. Enjoy. :D

A couple more pics of the RX-8 GT. The other goodies he added to it was the Mazdaspeed alloy rims, MS shifter, and OMP racing buckets. I tried to get a interior pic, but the picture didn't come out right. This Year, Jack's car is yellow instead of the picture in the first post. I couldn't get a pic of his car because they were working on it and a lot of people trying to get his autograph, so this will have to do :p .

Here is the picture of the (now) white FC. The paint looked fantastic and I thought it suited the car better. The second one is the Caterham Super 7. What an amazing little car! The final pic is of a 1956 Porsche Carrera GS. Inside and out, the car was in mint condition/fully restored. I'll let the picture do the talking...

The next batch of pictures is the Canadian Subaru Rally Team's entry, the WRX STi.
There was also the all new Legacy in the rally and some regular WRXs. Sweeeeeet...

This one is for all those Supra fans out there! This is one sexy beast of a machine. It's the first time I have ever seen a Supra first hand. :o

Something that caught my eye at the display was the AE86. Also a first time for me to see one up close. In my neck of the woods, there aren't anyone that gave this car a second look. But I thought it was pretty neat to see this one in a tarmac rally... The second car is our dreaded rival, the 350 Z . The third car is a 95 BMW M3.

The first picture is a shot of the gas tank in the back of a 90's Porsche (Can't remember the model, and NO it is not a NOS bottle! My friend said it was NOS and I just nodded ). The second picture is an old BMW. I'm also not sure the model of this, but I thought it was neat. Third pic is a rear shot of an old, but really good condition 911T. The fourth pic is our smaller brother, the Mazda 6 wagon.

The first pic in this is the 2001 Porsche Carrera 4, The 3rd year in which this team has participated in the rally. The second is the 2004 Cadillac CTS-V. This car had a really huge carbon fiber spoiler, but it sort of matched the car, since the car was black. I like the angular lines of this car. The third picture is a Mini Cooper S. A good handling car that is well suited to the twisty stages of the rally. Fourth pic is an old 1989 Darrian T9. I have never ever seen this car anywhere. It doesn't even look like it is a normal road going car. It looks like a full blown race car. Whatever it is, it's funky looking . The mechanics were working on it so I couldn't get a other shots of it.

moRotorMotor-Thanks for spending the time to post these great pictures-quite enjoyable. By the way that BMW is a model 2002Tii (fuel injected from about 1971, and the nice yellow Porsche is a 1969 911T model ( in this case the T doesn't stand for TURBO). Again thanks for the great photos.

Oops, thanks for pointing that out to me, grapes. I thought the "T" stood for turbo, my bad. You know your cars really well.

I'll post one last pic. This is the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Replica. The car on the left is a Porsche GT3...unfortunately I didn't take a pic of it. I'll give you guys an update to see how well our 8 finished in compare to the rest of the field.

I got to spend some time with the driving team from World of Wheels - they needed some spare wheels so I put my winters on early and gave them my 4 OEM wheels for Targa. Still haven't heard if any of them are still usable.

Check out https://www.rx8club.com/canada-forum-35/targa-nfld-rx-8-pics-come-38767/ for my pics of the 8 in Targa.

You are more brave than I, my friend. You shouldn't expect to see those tires again .

They actually borrowed wheels and all, not just tires. They burned up the rear Dunlops in less than 2000km ... apparently the **** end of the car was completly covered in rubber dust during every stage. My wheels got slightly damaged in the back of the support vehicle so they'll be replaced - no biggie. Getting them put on today.
