Looks great Mike! I'm actually thinking of moving down from SM next year into Street Prepared. Dunno if the RX-8 will be staying in BSP or moving to CSP, but I think it'll be fun. Don't really want to keep dumping money such as a turbo kit and all just to be competitive in SM.

TopGear8 08-06-2010 11:33 AM

If only the RX8 would move to DSP.

TeamRX8 08-06-2010 02:06 PM

Considering the equality in STX it should ....

Clearly, you don't understand the amount of power just waiting to be had with all those additional SP mods. And don't forget the impact a lightweight flywheel will have!!!!!
:wink2:

Kind of like the belief that the higher the rear wing is mounted the more effective it will be ... :hahano:

Ha ha. The RX-8 definitely belongs in DSP. Hopefully after Brian Peters/Doug Rowse/Eric Campbell win this year in a E46, the SPAC would be more open to considering this move.

FWIW, my money is on Peters ftw... ;)

Has he been dominating that much lately? j-rho was talking him up on RoadRaceAutoX like it's a done deal. Considering the top guys in DSP, I would think it's anyone's game - especially considering how close Campbell and Schipkov have been doing this year (and Schipkov's history of top DSP finishes).

TeamRX8 08-07-2010 09:09 AM

It's always anyone's game at Nats as anything can happen, but that car/driver combo is extremely strong

I really think Peters will show the solo community just how fast DSP really is this Fall...which would hopefully make the SPAC more open to moving down the RX-8 from BSP.

.......drooool.

But I really don't want to pull my A/C & Radio. But I do want a modern wing. Aint rules grand?

Zelse 08-09-2010 08:17 AM

I think it's kind of silly the RX-8 is against Evo's and STI's in BSP, because you need to be a superior driver against those cars in order to really get the jump on them, due to their extra power and all. Granted a BSP RX-8 is a lot lighter than them, but still, just my thoughts. If it goes to DSP that'll be awesome. Just found someone to get me replacement interior components and carpeting and all for $200 so looks like I have a winter project already...putting back the interior I once ripped out, getting my Stance shocks revalved and all, probably getting a removable steering wheel and a few other small goodies.

Anyone already planning on goodies to do for the winter?

Depending on funds, I'll be looking to pick up a different cat (200cpi), a used Cobb AP, get a custom protune, and hopefully add a racing seat (driver's side). Would also like to add a light-weight battery like an Odyssey...

Zelse 08-09-2010 03:56 PM

Doesn't sound too bad at all. You see my write up about how I fitted my Odyssey into the car? Fits real nice in the corner there, looks good too.

chiketkd 08-09-2010 06:06 PM

Marc,

If/when I do my lightweight battery install, I'll be sure to look over your blog. Thanks!

Got rid of mine ....

Who would have thought 15' of cable and the battery in trunk would have been a bad idea. Save no weight, and not be able to start the car.

While a small one in the stock location saves weight and starts the car. ;)

TeamRX8 08-09-2010 07:30 PM

It's not any problem if you don't underdrive the alternator at half speed, plus I was also using the smaller 545 size

Starting was never an issue as long as the battery had 12V or more. The problem was no charging while operating at low engine revs which with extended idling during engine warming, electric steering, and high amp electric fans; often running after shutdown, etc would eventually run it down.

I never had a charging issue with the pulleys installed. Smaller battery, plus 5lbs of cable, fail.

TeamRX8 08-09-2010 07:55 PM

Our pulley sets are quite different

Plenty of people run a PC680 in the trunk without issue.

To carry this conversation forward, let's for example say your car weighed 3000 lbstotal with you in it and your engine produced peak numbers of 215 rwhp/140 rwftlbs. Without the detailed specifics we have to make some assumptions, so assuming the engine characteristic differences are equal percentages if another car weighs 3060 lbs with driver the engine would need to produce 219/143 to have equal acceleration. On the other hand, if the extra weight provides weight balance that allows a 2 mph greater corner exit speed not only will you get beat to the next turn that margin will continue to grow turn after turn after turn, again making some basic assumptions about car and driver performance.

It seems like a load of BS until you look at drivers weighing 150 lbs more beating other drivers in the same car. Weight is not always the hinderance as perceived. There are a lot of other dominating factors that come into play in the autox game, including what you or I or anyone else did last year as having any influence or determination over what we do this year, or even event to event, or having any direct comparison if one car setup is better than the other based on the same.

Zelse 08-11-2010 08:36 AM

...So are you suggesting I keep my rollbar in the car for extra weight when I go to SP next year? ;)

You just keep paving the way Mark... Maybe one day it will pay off with a decent finish.

LOL, only proves what you're posting here is no different than the sniping comments you made to me at the Cali events earlier in the year. Ive had my share of suckage no doubt, but you're not under my skin yet so keep digging pal. :p:
