Kind of low on inventory, but they may have them for another common fitment.

RPF1 17x9 +45's are 15.9lbs and $250/each... the fitment over the brake calipers is scary close but I'm pretty spoiled by that price. It's going to be hard to justify dropping $500+/wheel on another set...

Lets just say I paid more for my RPF1's, than I did for these.

If so I want some. W/ 17x9 rpf1's for $1k and 18x9.5 rpf1's for $1200, I'd gladly take a set of 18x9 volks for less.

Just stumbled upon this accidently. Buy a $30 membership and the RPF1 18x9's are $266/wheel: http://performance.yoparts.com/enkei.../i-197837.aspx

I also bet Rishie from Auto R&D on our boards could beat Tire Rack's pricing. It's 18.4lbs for the 18x9's though... so for 3x the price you can lop 1lbs of the wheel... I'm no where near competitive enough to consider that

That vendor seems to have a sale on KW's every couple of months. I'll probably pick up a set in the new year. I'm leaning heavily towards the KW's over revalved PSS9's at this point.

Chiketkd, looked at Stance yet? I really love my set and some other RX8 drivers who've had other brands love the feel of my car.

KWs rock.

Pulled the Bride seat out today and the OEM back in. Man, what a wussy seat. Flat-bottomed and soft.

I'd like to be on double adjustables, which is why the KW's are at the top of my list currently.

ST/SP legal intake

As the splash shield is deemed illegal to remove, rpmchris over on miata.net came up with a modified AEM intake shown below for his CSP MX-5.

When Ron Bauer was making his NC CSP, he asked for a clarification on the AEM intake and was told it was illegal because of some mod needed during install. Must have been the splash sheild?

Correct. The "splash shield" is referred to in parts diagrams as a "PLATE,SEAL-RAD. SHROUD" in both the MX-5 and RX-8. It was deemed to be part of the radiator "system" and not the intake "system" which would make it illegal to modify in ST & SP. See Arrrrex-8's post below:

To install the intake you have to remove a panel that is attached to the top of the bumper. Mazda does not consider this panel to be part of the intake, there for we are not allowed to remove it. This issue came up with this same intake on the MX-5 csp cars, http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread...&highlight=aem , the consensus was that the panel in question was not legal to remove. Some one sent into SCCA for a clarification, in the october fasttrack the clarification came back. Not legal. It seams like the issue is that Mazda call's this panel PLATE,SEAL-RAD. SHROUD, a radiator shroud not an intake shroud. Even though as far as I can tell the actual function of this panel is to direct air towards the stock cold air tube. I attached a pic showing the panel I'm talking about. This really sucks but not much we can do about it. I think I'm going to try to modify the intake to sit above this panel like the stock cold air tube sits, but its going to be really tight and I'm not sure if there is enough room for a filter in there. If that doesn't work I'll end up putting the stock intake back in. I also have a K&N V2 intake but that thing is crazy loud and just sucks in hot air.

Just using the same lingo as rpmchris used in his post about his modified AEM intake for his CSP MX-5. Something similar could be run on the RX-8 legally...

Edit: I think MX-5 owners call it a "splash shield" as it's believed to keep water away from the opening of the intake (lower side).

I have a feeling the RX-8 is more likely to be protested in STX than it was in STU.

And that's a wrap...

Well, the AutoX season is just about over for the Seattle area. Technically there are 2 more events next weekend but they're not from either of the main clubs (SCCA and BSCC). Last week was the last SCCA event and this past weekend was the last 2 BSCC events.

What a year it's been! My car started out on 17x9" wheels but no other mods which inadvertantly forced me into STX, so I spent the rest of the year bringing my driving ability and the car up to snuff to compete. Last week I got my tire pressures wrong in the rear and it drove me nuts. The next run I did in the afternoon with the right pressure saw me drop over a second and would've put me in 7th of 14 for NS4 (STX, STU, STS, and a couple others).

Then this weekend was BSCC. BSCC has the policy that you can run novice for your whole first season... unless you're me. They kicked me out after I won by 5 seconds (and for a while I was ahead by 9 seconds) EVERYONE else I talked to got to do their whole season as a Novice, but I take it as a compliment. Still, on Sunday, I got to see a pretty amazing sight...

Eric Hyman (awesome last name, huh?) has been running a GTR R35 all season in both clubs (on hoosiers since July) and has been very fast, while dual driving with his wife. On Sunday, the last run group of the second half of the last event of the season, he co-drove in time only with Ron Bauer. Ron + GTR + Race tires = Madness. Eric stayed ahead of him (he's very fast in his own right in any car) but the two of them quite literally scared the **** out of another novice working a fast section with me. Maybe we'll get lucky and someone will have filmed the runs.

Oh! So George, Ron mentioned he and Karl are going to drive with you next year?

That would be a neat trick... How do you get three open class STX drivers in a car?

It's also possible he didn't mean Karl too? Either way we'll let George chime in since well, it's his car

We have a "Slush" series that starts up sometime in November or December... I might run in that on my all seasons but the prospect of inadvertantly getting a dry event on the all seasons isn't very appealing, neither is bringing 2 sets of wheels...
