Steering wheel Lock

Setting up a track car. The rules state the steering wheel lock must removed / disabled. Anyone know an easy way to disable the steering wheel lock. Trying to keep the stock steering wheel for now.

There are two common ways. Search with Spec Miata as the locks are largely the same.

1. You can drill a hole in the bottom of the lock mechanism and remove the spring.

2. You can remove the lock from the column (you'll need to cut slots in the bolts in order to unscrew them) and then block the hole in the column that the lock pin goes into with a small square of shim stock or other thin sheet metal. It will be obvious when you remove the lock.

The second way is just as easy, more elegant, and reversible.
