Spill the beans, who has tried 285 or 295 Hoosiers?

I am about to spend some money on tires on my BS RX8, and I am thinking of going with the 285 Hoosiers, but am not sure. I am no threat to anyone competitively, but if this were to be top secret sort of information yet you wouldn't mind throwing me a bone, I would appreciate a PM. Thanks.

All I know about running that size on a 18x8" wheel is that the winning Solstice was running the 295s at the Denver pro on that same size wheel. Will it work on a RX8, who knows? There's that and the fact that I'd hate to be the tire mounter

Also, 275s fit with no problem on 18x9.5" wheels for STU if that helps any...

Thanks. I know they will fit a 18x8 rim. I don't think the Hoosiers are as bad to mount as the Kumhos are, in fact, I know they aren't. Frankly, I was going to leave that up to my tire guy who "aren't 'fraid uv nuthin'." Maybe that's how he lost that finger, eye, etc.

I am only a bit worried about rubbing. Given the issue of gearing, I would prefer the 285's to the 295's even though they are harder to mount. I know there are some folks on here running the 285's based on other posts. How are they working out?

Dietz was on Kumho V710 245/35/18's for the Denver Pro Solo.

The word is Kevin has ran both the A6 and the V710, not sure what size A6, but he choose to run the 245 V710 when it counted.

Those way big tires on way small wheels are a waste imho.

I actually cant remember which day I saw him on the V710's but I think it was Saturday. I didnt really pay attention on Sunday. I talked with him about them and he seemed to think the V710's were the tire to have. (I agree)

Hard to beat the V710 for performance/life/value vs the Hoosier. Now if only Kumho had a rain tire.

The 710 is his preferred tire.

I guess without any real CS comp at Packwood he can run the slower tire.

well even if we tried it and made it work that doesn't necessarily mean you'll have the same results ...

My bad. I was reading about 285s/295s on Solstices on sccaforums and in the same conversation the Denver winner was mentioned but they weren't related. Sorry for the mis-information.

But! Some people get 100+ runs on the A6's like Fordahl's....

I am not being a wuss since I can win against Kevin and he can win against me on any given day(I got him by a whooping .003 last weekend).

I am just being a good buddy to Kevin by not signing up since he did so well in Denver.

I want Kevin to win the overall challenge for year end and class championship too.
Having me there will do him no good unless I hit a cone on purpose on every run or something but that would **** people off...

Besides, I think the format of PRO's is flawed and is too hard on cars.

FM
You could always run CSP... But I know you are so good, have to be with a name like Fast Mike, that you don't need extra seat time before natls. Must be because you have such an over dog car.

I'm still a noob, and when I do a run, I usually know what I did better or not. More seat time is the most useful thing in the world for me.

There's a reason I'm taking evo next week after the pro.

Would that be because two round trips between Kirkland and Packwood in eight days wasn't enough?

FWIW, I have 275/40-17 V710s on the rear wheels of my S2000, which are 17x8.5. I got the wheels/tires from Ron and Annie Bauer last year, so I trust that it's a reasonable thing to do, but they're as bulging as I would want tires to be, so I have my doubts about wider tires, lower profile, on thinner wheels.

Is your S2000 staggered? I was trying to figure out why Honda staggered the car from the factory, any ideas/answers?

The best I can come up with is that the spring rates were stiffer in the rear than front so they needed the extra tire out back to balance out the car.

The S2000 has a nasty little reputation for oversteer, and the staggering helps with that. I've never seen somebody drive an s2000 for the first time and not spin. Its just gonna happen.

Okay, anybody with the 285's or 295's. Maybe I'll just go with the 275's or give in to the Kumho propoganda and go with the V710's. It would save me 100 or 200 bucks...that way I can buy some Koni's for the front....

All S2000s are staggered from the factory. I suspect part of it is just a sexy look, but the larger rear tires help control oversteer (which certainly is a bugaboo of this car). With a very stiff front bar, set at a medium/soft setting, and with fairly wide tires (245 front/275 rear for autox; 235 front/255 rear for track; stock is 215 front/245 rear) its handling is quite neutral now.

Go with the 245 Kumhos. The 275 are not the droids you're looking for.
