The #70 RX-8 placed 1st. The cobalt (#29?) that was in the lead for the first half of the race do to it's over agressive driver had to pit and then it was no contest. It was a tough course for the 8. It always out performed the others in the twisties but there is a tight turn before the large bank that required a serious reduction in speed. This is were the high hp cars made it tough on them. Great driver, setup and car. He just seemed to do it right and keep the long run in mind, all 99 laps of it.

Also #70 had atleast a 4sec lead on the second place car towards the end. It was crazy.

Question: what type of tires do they run on these cars? is it a spec tire series?

Thanks. That does help. I can't believe they run Hoosier slicks. I say that because I saw the qualifying results for the Mosport 200 yesterday and thought the times were kinda slow. On slicks, they are ULTRA SLOW!!

http://www.grandamerican.com/Events/...?SessionID=523

For comparison Speed World Challenge Touring cars run the track in 1:30:xx on Toyo Proxes RA-1!! you can knock a good 3-4 seconds off with slicks on that track. Hell. I have run a 1:25:8 there!!

http://www.world-challenge.com/2005/...s/tc-qual.html

Now again, I don't know much about the Grand am series, so maybe the cars are underpowered or something, but I would have thought they would have been atleast 5 seconds faster. 1:35 on slicks is just slow for a race car.

All I can tell you since I'm not an avid race fan is what they told me. The minimum for the class is 2700lbs and modifications are some what limited.

Grand-Am Cup runs Hoosier R-Compound tires, they are not slicks. They are actually harder than the DOT R-Compounds that Hoosier sells to the public due to the increased punding they take running in endurance races.

That said, the SPEED World Challenge Touring Cars are many times the cost of a well set up Grand-Am Cup Sport Touring Car. The level of modification allowed in the two series is night and day.

Grand-Am Cup has street cars with race prepped suspension (no geometry changes) and mildly, very mildly modified engines.

SPEED World Challenge Touring Cars are ground up racecars. They have fully race prepped suspension with altered geometry allowed. The engines are fully race prepped. These cars share very little, other than their shell, with the street cars on which they are based.

Grand-Am Cup = Street Stock Series
World Challenge = Full-bore Race Cars

These are two very different series with vastly different prep rules for the cars racing in them.

I really like the way the 68 one looks. The more I look at it, the more I want to get the MS kit and go at it. :D
