SCCA Regional Classes & Rules

Could anyone tell me where I can find all the SCCA regional Classes and rules for the classes? I already looked around the SCCA site and can't find anything. I'm planning on building a car for the series and would like to know what my limits are.

You should clarify what kind of racing you're talking about. Solo? Club racing? Rally?

Solo regional rules may be published on your region's website -- they won't be published on the national site.

If you're talking about autocross/Solo II, there's a rule book for SCCA National events (and you need to have a copy at registration for National events...cost is about $15). Different regions have supplemental rules that vary from one region to the next (check your region's web site). The closest thing to the National rulebook online is http://moutons.org/sccasolo/ but it doesn't have everything.

I was going to say the same thing. I looked on Louisiana, but they weren't on there. I did find them a few months ago on someone's regional site. Try central Florida.

Best bet is to buy the rule book and read it and then read it again. Then decide which class you want and build your car to those rules. You should be able to contact your local region and find out how and where to get the book. And if you need any clarifications of the rules goto the forums at: http://www.sccaforums.com/index.php

Hope this helps.

thanks guys, I'm plaining on building a pro car, but not for the WC. I'd love to build an RX-8. I will Probally go with an 95 or 96 Supra, I know everyone thinks it's a horrible idea, but I love to watch them run in the JGTC, and there they seem to do very well there. I also want something where I could go from the road course t the strip and still be competitive. The 8 is the perfect road course racer, but when it comes to power and having to do safety mods I can get more bang for my buck with an older Supra. What do you think? I forgot to mention the fact that my local NC region site has nothing on it, it looks like it is maintained by a child.

wait I just saw an RX-8 with a SCCA Club Racing Sticker on it, I thaught the club cars were only the little carts? If I wasmistaken then I guess that would be what I'm building and not a pro car? This is confusing.

I'm a 25 yr SCCA member & former club racer. What you should do is contact your local club. Then volunteer to work corners at a couple of regional races. From there you will be up and close the the cars at speed and find out which class & car you want to get involved with.
If you decide to build the Supera, it would be to old to enter in Showroom Stock (5 yr limit). You could build it for Improved Touring. There the rules allow you to mod the car about as far as you can go and keep it street legal.

Here's a breif description of the different classes in the middle of the page:

It's really too bad SCCA doesn't do like some other series, and classify the cars based on power to weight ratio. This allows for whatever modifications you want, but still requires you to race against your car's "peers". Although, they do have the street mod category, which is awesome!

slavearm, you're right. I'm a big JGTC fan and it operates the same way. Two classes GT500 and GT300. 500 and 300 horsepower, but both classes run at the same time, fun. The only car restrictions are max power restricted by air flow and weight which is controlled by handicaps to keep the race competive and equal. www.jgtcusa.com
we need this series in the US. What can you do in the GT club class in the SCCA, what are the minimums to get in and limits you have on mods? All this class stuff and restrictions are getting annoying and confusing, so many of them. Like no adding turbos that aren't featured on stock vehicle or a factory option. Cylinders may be bored but only .0432 cm more or some junk like that. Just give us a power rating and let us find our own why there. With the method that the SCCA uses it's possible, but not likly, that someone could stick to the mod rules and still dominate because they have more options and abilities with their vehicle, so if the max power I can reach with all the alotted mods with my car is 425 but his can reach 525, how's that keeping it competive?

ugh. no thanks. You think racing is expensive now? If you do that, start looking for unubtanium replacement parts for everything. Why have heavy anything, when HP and weight are the only restrictions, make everything as light as possible, then you can add the weight later, but where you want it. (IE: in sheats of lead strapped to the floor in the center of the car)

No, that "fix" is would make it worse than it would before adding the "fix"
