RX8 Winner at Nationals

LOL, now I don't feel so bad, thanks guys! Just as some of you do not venture out, I guess I'm the same way and have not ventured into the "Tech & Performance > RX-8 Competition (Racing)" section. The only reason I found this thread originally is because it was out in a more visible forum, which is kind of nice because sometimes we become creatures of habit. Now it has been moved into the Competition Forum and others that like to know but don’t venture will never see it. Oh well! I'll just have to post a message in the SE area so my buddies can come pay attention to this awesome news, even if it is old.

Imp,
If you are still looking for autox to run, www.autox4u.com still has a number of events left on the calender. Or better yet, just check out my sticky in the NE forum for the condensed/updated schedule. Btw, I never made it to the event on 10/8 due to the weather. Was the event on at all since I still don't see the result posted?

OK, you guys got me pumped! I just registered for Sunday on a track close by. So I'm a N1 and can't wait. I've run one time before but I was clueless what I was doing.

I ran today and I know I'm a newbie to SCCA Solo but guys, this was one of the most exciting things I've ever done. I think I took second place but I will not really know until the results are posted online. You big dogs help us little dogs get interested.
EDIT:
Two heats combined I took a 5th place.

Great to see the additional interest in autox shown by new RX-8 drivers with the landslide in National this year. I think a good part of the thrill about autox is that you keep challenging yourself to go faster and closer to the cones out on the course.
From the photo, it looks like you had an instructor/passenger on-board. Definitely don't be shy to ask for ride-along piloted by better autoxers or instructor sitting in your car for feedback. Above all, always hug the cone with the back inside wheel between the slalom. Stock up on brake cleaner to remove cone marks as you get hooked on the sport would be a good idea too~

My instructor was awesome (TrackAddict), he did tell me to get closer to the cones and in that particular turn he told me to do a late apex next time. Seemed like I would correct two things the next run and 3 other things would pop up! But I guess that is what makes you want to come back next time. Trying to get a perfect run in. I will concentrate on getting closer next time. Thanks!

From my Evo instruction and appx 10 or so events, autocrossers tend to not use the term "apex" as much as road racers. Turn-in early or late is frequently used instead. Turn-in early is to set up the car so you are actually accelerating thru the critical cone instead of after the cone. Car placement, speed control, and looking ahead will serve you well in autox for many events to come. Just my $.02.
Welcome to discovering the fun of autox!
