rx8 chumpcar
ok i have just decided today im going to build a rx8 chumpcar.we ran a rx7 a few years in chumpcar but want something faster and newer.i have found several crashed rx8s for 2,000 and less.dont care that they are crashed mind you its mainly cosmetic fenders bumper door etc.anyways long story short im looking 4 to 5 people who might be intrested in building a car together that are close to me or somewhat close.we would just split the cost of build and entry fees to race and split up seat time in whatever races we do.
i have already done tons of chumpcar racing so i know most of all the rules to date etc and yes i kow we will get a decent amount of penelty laps due to value of rx8s but i dont care im doing this for fun but want a car quick enough to be near top.oh and i will be building all the motors for the car
im in eastern nc my zip is 27889 my email is usedcarpartss@aol.com if your intrested let me know.and im going to be buying the next rx8 i see on craiglist for 2,000 or less thats damaged but complete

well the car itself im guessing 1,000 to 1,500 but we should be able to get all that back from parting out the interior and other stuff we wont need.so the car to start should be free.add a cage and saftey stuff plus basic stuff like fuel jugs etc.i already have truck and full tilt car trailer and tons of tools.
im guessing the build with stock motor would be about 5-6k but split that 4-5 people that aint to bad.the process could be and would more than likley be done in small steps at time.as everyone on team has there funds ready for there part like say cage first takes 2,000 to get done its x amount of dollars each person and so on and so on.im sure each person will have there own set of skills they can offer.of course if we get someone with a ton of funds and wants to speed the process up i wont stop them lol
the races themself would be pretty darn cheap entry fee 1,000 or so plus fuel to run towing gas hotel stay etc i think 300-500 each person a race would just about cover us all to get 5 plus hours of seat time each event.
the tracks we would be racing at would be daytona sebring vir road atlanta charlotte basiclly the best ones and if you have never done chumpcar let me tell you its fast competitive racing thats stupid fun

Check out the car I am selling.
It is a caged race car legal for NASA and SCCA. Cage is top quality built by a race shop local to me. We lost the motor at the championships last year and I have been splitting it out. It has a nice fuel cell setup, 2 piece rotors, new carbotech pads, nice seat, current FIA belts, side net, momo steering wheel with quick release, lexan glass, huge custom cooling system, fire suppression, and more. We could do the chassis only and I finish stripping it down, or whatever combo would work best. Could save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
I am asking $3500 for the bare caged chassis (my cost on the cage and seat install).
Fuel cell is all aluminum 12 gallon has the nice pick up box/pump assembly, was installed by a race shop with all lines to the engine compartment. Was new in late 2011 and has current SFI cert for many years to come. Only issue is 12 gallon may not be large enough for what you are doing. This stuff adds up fast, I spent $2400 just last year to get the cell, pump, lines, regulator, and professional install.
No motor, control, no exhaust, no intake
No shocks,
no wheels
no gauges

Just curious to know how you figure that an RX8 qualifies for ChumpCar?
well I suppose that technically you can run around looking like chumps ...
Not including the required safety equipment that you'll need – roll-cage, racing seat, racing harness -- your car must be valued at less than $500. That’s valued at, as assessed by the general market, not what you paid for it.
If you come to Tech Inspection with a car that's worth $1,500... plan on starting the race about 100 laps down from everyone else. You can still run in the race and you'll have a great time... but you’ll never win. If that doesn't bother you, you're our kind of Chump!

I overlooked that it was addressed in the OP,
somehow I doubt your name is Daryl Drummond ...

Voids warranties
Based on fair market value vs price actually paid, You would probably be better off running in Lemons. There at least you can B.S. you way into the race without having to start out negative a hundred laps

i did 9 chumpcar races in a 90 rx7 and just bout everytime a car with 30 or more laps down to start won the race.but to be honest its beside the point you can run whatever you bring and im just trying to build a fast car that i can get some major track time with.do i care we will get 50-100 laps no i dont and that alone is being a chumpcar fan.
so with that said i need a few more people to join me in this.and im going to do this eventually i dont care what anyone says or thinks.the goal here is to get seat time in a fast fun rx8 and drive on some of the greatest tracks ever

oh and by the way if you have ever gone to a chumpcar race you will quickly find out there aint much out there that is a real 500 dollar car thats the honest truth people just read way to much into the 500 value thing.at one event i went to a car that was 45 laps down won and won by 12 laps they were like 15 seconds faster than anyone.

We've thought about a budget-blower LeChump car, but have stuck to legit cars so far. You might be able to run EC class in Chump.
FWIW, an RX-8 has already been done in Lemons, so while you'll still get a shitload of penalty laps, you won't be the first one ith the idea. The same race also had a recent GTO in it. Neither car was among the fastest on the track. But you are right that LeChump racing is a total blast and better racing than people think.
