RX-8 Track Racing (Getting Spanked)

Ok so i go down to my local drag and almost always end up racing V8's. Most of the time i don't do so well. I mean i don't get worked but i never win. Just want to know if there is anyone out there who has beaten a V8 or who has been spanked by any other type of car and vise versa

If your are running "at the local drags", you should be bracket racing and running against an index. The only way to get spanked is if you, as a driver, screws up. I can't believe any sanctioning body would class a RX8 against a V8 car.

What do you expect? It is what it is.

When I used to drag race in my 11 sec., 120+mph trap LS1 powered Fbod, I knew what the outcome would be most of the time.
If I were to drag race in the RX8 (something which I would not do), I know what the outcome shall be.

A 14 sec. car is a 14 sec. car. A 13 sec. car is a 13 sec. car. ......... An 11 sec. car is an 11 sec. car, so on and so forth. It is determined by physics.

Perhaps you will beat a 13 sec. car with a driver whom is learning how to drive- but that's all you can hope for- human error.

I wouldn't get so offended. I think people just don't understand why you would take an RX8 to the dragstrip. That would be like taking a knife to a gunfight. I think most 8 owners are more into auto-X or tracking their cars because that's where it really shines......

Reality hurts sometimes Sorry guy.

Here's an old timeslip of mine from when my car was first breaking in to 11's. Perhaps the guy in the other lane was a hopeful, "POSITIVE" thinking person who thought he had a chance......

3.299 seconds may not seem like much, but let's just say you would have needed to use several Greyhound buses to measure the distance between my car and his.

Unmodified 4.6L V8 Mustangs from the '90s are "slow" 14 sec. bait. Pick a fight with them for starters and see how it goes.

You need to take the RX8 out to a Performance driving school event and you can tear those V8's up on the corners and s curves, however wave bye bye to them on the straights. On these tracks the only car as tight is a newer Porsche.

Go to trackschedule.com and click calendar they even have a mazda school.
Owe and it is a blast.

Why does everyone keep dissing YOUR OWN CAR ?
If someone wants to build a drag machine out of a rx8, go for it.

the drag track i go to i some how always get set up with some bilt v8 last time i got next to what looked like to be an good 10sec mustang they ended up backing him off the line and letting me run alone. They dont really match any one up its an open night and what every you pull up beside is what you are going to run. But hey i do it just to stay off the street and have a little fun

You live in what is probably one of the best if not the best autocross regions in the world. Drag racing has its thrills and is harder than it seems it should be, but you will experience a whole new level of enjoyment in your RX8 at an autocross. Unless you are really terrible, you will routinely beat cars that kill you at the dragstrip.

That's as positive as I can be.

OK, I'll assume that by "drag" you mean "Accellerating in a straight line". Because the alternative is just to horrible to contemplate (especially if it involves spanking)!

May I suggest that you take one of those V8 behemoths out onto a real track - one with corners - and do some spanking yourself?
