You would indeed be in BSP if you choose not to run STU.

The only mustangs in BSP are Saleens... and having it look like NASCAR is odd because aside from fender flairs, they need to retain rear seats, carpeting, etc. in SP. Did they put you in Prepared? And I can't imagine anyone prepping a Saleen for BSP when the Vettes have won BSP for 19 of the past 21 years. (Technically, it's a vette, m3, 240Z class)

And this could very well be the case that your local BSP field was weak (1 of 10) where you might be able to keep up... which is great on the local level. However, I don't see a fully prepped RX8 even keeping up with a C4 vette on a course. Hence the reason why I suggest if you're not going to invest in R compounds, STU would be more suited.

I took first place in STU here in San Diego over the weekend against a group of STIs and EVOs. Imp is spot on regarding what it takes to be competitive in class. I also agree with Alex's sentiment that the real competition in this class is the M3...not the WRX and EVO. The rally cars are limited to 245mm tires in class so if you want to beat them you must use the advantage of this tire limit to offset our lack of HP by putting down the max tired allowed in class for the RX8...which is 275s. This way you can make up some of the lack of straight line speed by carrying a little more speed in the corners thanks to lower overall weight and more tire. I ran 18x9.5s with the new Falken 615s in 275/35/18 all around with Racing Beat sways, Borla exhaust, RB intake, JIC coilovers, lowered about 1.25 inches and corner balanced with a reasonably aggressive alignment.

Car looked great with those big tires tucked in the fenders. I wish STU was a natl class and there was some way to make sure all the turbo cars are on legal boost.

Shelbi and I have been doing some serious discussions about converting her car to STU.

Jason: We'll miss you this weekend. 968 versus 8..Should be a battleroyaaaallll!

(I will be putt-putting in ES)

Weather good/site super sticky/COVERED PITS!!!/lots of cabins with hot tubs etc. What more could you want!

Hopefully Mt St Helens will calm back down...small eruption this week....

Reading the rules, you can replace an SRS equipped seat with an aftermarket one without. The only thing you can't touch is a steering wheel equipped with an airbag.

What about the passenger side airbag... If you remove/replace you passenger seat with a race seat you will be removing the smart airbag sensor for the passengers bag. So in other words by just replacing the seat you have shut down the pass airbag. I would think you can only replace your drivers seat in the case of a car with a smart pass airbag.

Been going to that event for a lot of years. Always the best tour imo. To bad it is now in even more BFE. Then there are those gas prices.

Have fun with your girlie car in ES Midpac. :D

I would like to see a natl level driver, someone real fast not mike :p , fully set one up, but I think it is a lost cause.

To bad.... If you have never been it is a great event, They have the BEST on site party of any tour and all the people are cool. Also they have some great courses up there due to Babb and Johnson's years of service.

Rules say you can replace the seats without any stipulations. If/When the rule is 'clarified' (like they're so apt to do) then and only then will it be any sort of issue of those who have vs. those that don't.

Right now, legal.

You crack me up!
Thanks for the good laugh!!!

Really is too bad you guys can't make it.
Site is AWESOME.
Cheap to stay at decent places too.
Town LOVES us due to all the $$$ we bring in.
Haven't seen a cop yet!

I am hoping this Tour measures up to what we had at Bremerton.
The only thing you have to worry about while in Packwood is batsquatch. Do a google search and be very afraid!

I had to watch out for Elk poop while setting up course at last weekends Pro Solo in Packwood. Luckily I warned Joe Goeke in time before he stepped in a huge pile of it. Quite a close call. I would be more worried aout that while doing my course walks than batsquatch.

Actually, this year Greg Fordahl was the course designer, pretty fun miniature road course with some slaloms to mix it up.

If you had to rank investments in order of importance for STU at a local/divisional level (as rules stand today) how would you rank:

- Wheels (17"x? or 18"x?) & Falken Azenis 615s at 275/??/??
- Sways
- Coilovers & cornerweighting (what spring rates?)
- exhaust/intake/pulleys/etc...

Maybe in that order?

Hey hey hey! Sounds like a great RX8 effort for STU...

So SIGN UP FOR NATS already! :D The class needs 25 entrants to have a chance at finally becoming a "fully recognized" class.

My custom ordered "super secret lightweight package" RX8 (ha!) won't be here in time to prep it for Nationals, so I am stealing an STU ride from a friend (some Bavarian "M" something-or-other). Need to get as many people to run STU at Nats as possible so that this class, a really nicely laid out class with lots of competitive entrants (esp. RX8!), will "make it" next year.
