remove rear roll bar?
You must not be too concerned if you're still stuck on the idea of getting it done using an 8" wheel and 245 DOT-R tire when you have 300 rwhp
Man, you guys are spoiled by the great '8 handling and "tossability"...300hp and 2900lbs on 245 DOT R's? Try 365hp, 2500lbs, live rear axle and a short wheelbase...on 185/70-13 Yoko A008's...that was the set up in '94 on my Tiger...and it was fun as hell

Mwood--i bet it was! reminds me of the old mustang gt 350 days--power sliding is cool
.
remember guys-- i am not after a track record here.
i think a 245 on a 8 inch rim will do ok with the right tweaking. A sub 1.50 at Road Atlanta is not slow!
i also have done something that we havent mention---throttle sensitivity. When i had my ecm flashed for the fi kit i am running i also had him adjust the throttle sensitivity a little so that initial and mid throttle position does not come on as strong(still stronger than oem), but the power after that is steeper linear curve. thats a personnel adjustment --may not suit everyone. It is not like a v tec thing at all--still smooth but just gave me more throttle range, in a throttle movement sense.
There are certain turns in the tracks that i run in which the ability to use throttle modulation(for placement) is required/desired.
Slow learning , but learning none the less.

The 245 will suit him great (over a 225 or 235) in terms of grip. A small loss in feel and response is the least of his worries right now. His focus will be on his right foot's adeptness to steering wheel angle.
No. The rear bar does very little entering the corner since the rear is relatively unloaded. Eliminating the rear bar would cause the car to understeer more on corner EXIT.

a 245 on a 8"inch rim will still get good sidewall support. No bigger than that in my opinion. unsure yet as to run a 40 or a 45 sidewall. Too bad all tire makers do not offer those sizes.
i may end up steering more with my foot than i used too.
it also will be a good testing ground as to whether or not i will need methanol/water spray--hope not
