what can and cant i do to the car to stay in b stock?? any and all wearable items? what does that include.

and what can i do to the car to beable to compete in STU? a certain white rx8 told me today that i should come on here because there were a few people on here that have posted their mods and stuff.

please someone either PM me posts cause i tried searching and cant find anything.

For B Stock you can change or add...
Shocks
Wheels and add race tires
Exhaust (from cat back)
Front swaybar
Brake pads
Racing harness or CG lock

Basically what Bill said but their are specifics about those stock class mods on that pdf. If I had to do it over again I'd probably have built to BS instead of STU but oh well, the money's already spent and I don't feel like de-modding.

However, this does not mean you can use whatever wheels you want. To stay legal for B Stock, you must use race wheels that are the exact same diameter, width, and offset (+/- 5mm) as stock.

Tire sizess are free - in other words, you can run any tire size that will fit on legal wheels. 245/35-18 Kumho V710s are a popular choice.

The offset allowance is +/- 0.25", or just over 6mm.

Additionally, you need to check shock options as well. There are specific requirements on exended shaft length as well as spring perch locations (and shapes now, too?)


flaresniper, the short answer for Stock is that if you do pretty much any of the mods that you're talking about in other threads, you won't be Stock legal. Some of them are okay for STU, but not all.

That's their CCR rulebook. Club racing is not the same as autocross.

Each BMWCCA chapter that has an autocross program sets their own rules for it. Go here for the Boston chapter's info.

are you the boston chapter? i've never done it before, sunday is my first time. i have no performance mods. i have a carbon fiber hood which bumps me up into "street modified" even though the CF hood weighs more than the OEM hood. this seems really unfair, and is definitely going to discourage me from attending any further events.

No, I'm not in the Boston chapter and I'm not sure how the handle non-BMW classing.

As for being "bumped" into a class because of mods that you've made...that's what happens when you modify your car without thinking about how it may affect your classing. This seems to bother people most often when they're just starting out and modded their cars before ever considering entering an organized, rules based event. Just because you've replaced a stock, lightweight aluminum hood with a heavier CF hood doesn't mean that someone in another car with a stock, heavy steel hood wouldn't see a benefit from changing to a lightweight CF hood. To keep the rules simple to understand and easy to administer, you have to address the broad possibilites.

And FWIW, non-marque cars competining in marque club autocrosses frequently all get lumped together. That's how it was in the NCC BMW club up until a couple years ago. Now we have two classes for non BMWs...with R comps and without.
