Enkei RPF-1 17x9, 45mm offset 5x114, 15 pounds |
WedsSport TC105N 18x9 +50 - 7.7 kg or 17 pounds
|
Not sure if these will fit, but the offset look about right:
Enkei RC5 18x9.0 +42 19.5 lbs http://www.enkei.com/jpeg%20files/Wheels/RC5(18)Ss.jpg |
Heavy, but I do love Enkeis:
Enkei RPM2 18x9.0 +35 21.1 lbs http://www.enkei.com/jpeg%20files/Wheels/RPM2_HBs.jpg |

refresh my memory... the rules for stx wheels are? (too lazy to re-check on scca)

max 265 tires |
dia and offset open?
|
Yes, in STX diameter and offset are open.
I got used set of 245/45R17 RE01R's for crazy cheap so I'm thinking about finding a cheap set of EVO VIII Enkei 6-spoke wheels to start (17x8, ET38, 67mm CB). They'll work well for track wheels once I get a real set of STX wheels. |

Will all these wheels clear the RX8 brakes?
|
Cline is fast, he'll be a good benchmark for me as I buildup the car.
More wheel options. Although quite expensive compared to some of the other options. BBS RGR (forged, 17.2 lbs) 17x9 ET42 http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheel..._bsp_ci3_l.jpg For 17" wheels I think that the $250, 16lb, 17x9 Enkei RPF1 is the way to go for STX. For 18's the Volk RE30 is the wheel I'd be dreaming of. Forged, 18x9 ET40, 17.5lbs and $796each. http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheel...grey_ci3_l.jpg Right now I'm also looking at the last of the 19.2lb Kosei K1TS 18x9 ET20 wheels from Tire Rack for $200 each. Not sure if they'll fit but it's a hell of a deal if they do. http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheel...s_lg_ci3_l.jpg Budget STX'ers can get the ASA AR1 18x9 (ET45 23.8lbs) $174 each. http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheel..._ar1_ci3_l.jpg |

ET20 is right. If they fit it would be nice but I'm not sure if they will. I know TeamRx8 ran 18x10.5 ET43 wheels and these 18x9 ET20 wheels will stick out the same amount as a 18x10.5 ET40. Tire profile when mounted and the 3mm difference is what I am worried about.

Unless there are 265/17's out there, the 18x9's are going to be the way to go.
Now finding them is hard. All sorts of 18x8.5 and 18x9.5's out there. Its like they made the required size 18x9 just to make it more difficult and expensive...I know they didn't....but.... Besides wheels, any thoughts on coilovers, sways, intakes, etc.? |

Here's what I ended up getting.
Weds Sport TC005 17X9 +42 15.8lbs They were on close out on tire rack for $240, normal price $370. I'm not sure if they are still there or not. |
Those are his 18x9.5 Enkei's the wheels I was talking about are the SSR Comp-H 18x10.5

Might be more like 23.5 pounds. Its a bit of surprise given that they look so much like the good ole SSR's. |
Speaking of STX wheels and tires. On sccaforums. Wheels and tires that should fit (may or may not need hub centers masaged).

One issue with 17s is I don't think they'll clear big brake kits on the market. This might be important for a STX build as BBKs are a good source of weight savings.

This is where Ulllose's point about paying more to go slower starts to make a lot of sense. Those rotors are freaking expensive.
|
And someone forgot that there is weight to be saved with the caliper as well. $$$

Gotcha Miles. Quick question, any idea what the weight and price are for those 18x10.5" SSR's???
Cost = $infinite. Sadly they are no longer made. I beleive that the set Mark bought was one of the last sets available and that was around a year or two ago. I think TireRack listed them as a rear wheel for the NSX, not sure though. I don't know of a comparable Type-C RS or Type-F but my wheel info resources are very limited compared to when I worked at TR. You like gold wheels right? These are a slightly heavier version, the GT2, made by SSR that someone on the forum has/had for sale. |

If you're building a track car that you want to autocross in STX then the point is moot. On the track a STX prepped car + comps > BS prepped car + comps. Well as long as its the same driver. Regardless the thread is looking for STX eligible wheels not discussions on the merits of the 8 being run in a different class. Since BS may be going the way of the dodo - or the 8 possibly losing its crown as BS preferred ride - enouraging people to branch out a bit might not be the worst idea in the history of this car forum. |

Not looking for a set at this moment, but I've decided that I'd probably like to run in Street Prepared in the not-too-distant future. The current RX-8 would be crushed in BSP, but I'd possibly like to give that class a crack when the 16X renesis is released.

Someone should see what these guys can do: http://www.jongbloedracing.com/
I hauled a set to Wendover last year for a guy, the quality looked great, and I understand they are fairly light for a 3-piece. I would say wait a few months, can't run an RX-8 in STX yet anyway, and see what sizes that new OZ comes in. |

I think some people should write letters to the SEB asking for the RX-8 to be moved to DSP. It just got dropped to STX, where it will compete with many of the same cars it would run with in DSP. I think it would be a very good match for DSP BMWs. :uhh:

Put together some BMW/Subi/RX-8 dyno charts, along with weights, potential areas for improvement from stock/ST to SP, and I think you would have a good letter on your hands. |

a) The only RX8 I'm driving, going forward, is someone else's b) I've already pissed enough people off by running with the "XS sucks" idea |

<<My thoughts>>The RX-8 is a dead duck in the current BSP. Even the new "mid-pack" cars of the class (E36 M3, C4 vette) will run circles around it. It also doesn't have the torque or light weight to keep up with a CSP miata. DSP sounds like a good class for it...<</My thoughts>> |
Oddly enough I had an rx8 to DSP conversation just a few days earlier... From my perspective it would be a interesting fit, but I think it would likely dominate the class.
|
Not sure on fitment, but size is right:
Enkei GTC01 18x9.0 +40 23.1 lbs http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheel...rblk_ci3_l.jpg |
Here is an interesting one....
Enkei RPF1 18x9.0 +35 18.4 lbs Special order from Tire Rack for $338 ea. (Lexus IS350 fitment): http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheel...f1_s_ci3_l.jpg |
Very expensive, but on clearance at TireRack:
Volk TE37 18x9.0 +40 18.5 lbs (Lexus IS350 fitment) http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheel...7_Ti_ci3_l.jpg |

FWIW, I started a new thread to discuss the RX-8 in DSP: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-25/rx-8-dsp-160070/

Another uber wheel
Volks ce28n 18x9 +35 or +40 offset or 17x9 15, 22, 23, 35, 40, 54, or 63mm offset In the 15" wheels IIRC the ce28's were lighter than the te37's http://www.nyxracing.com/volk-racing...3-p-11052.html http://www.nyxracing.com/volk-racing...3-p-11043.html |
^ I coughed when I saw the prices of those Volks. I knew they were expensive --- but WOW!!!!
