Looking for some clarification on the Splitter rule.

A spoiler/splitter may be added to the front of the car below the
bumper. It may not extend rearward beyond the front most part
of the front wheel well openings, and may not block normal grille
or other openings, or obstruct lights. Splitters may not protrude
beyond the bumper

Beyond the bumper meaning the sides of the bumper, or does this also mean the furthest most forward part or(nose) of the bumper?

I'm trying to see if the APR splitter Sipe used in STX back in the day would be legal, or if it is adjustable and can be made to fit.

The splitter cannot extend beyond the furthermost part of the bumper. I.E. looking down at the splitter from above the bumper.

Beyond the bumper means sides and front.

Take the 6" dimension in this drawing and change it to 0".

Just got back from an 18 day solo trip covering the western half of Japan; Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Okayama, Takumatsu, Tokushima, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Oita, Kamumoto, Kagoshima. I would sum it up in one word: wow. Most awesome experience of my life.

Back in the STX aero day the allowance was more liberal than SP. The splitter I had then is not SP legal, and of course non-production wings are not SP legal either. If you look at the splitter pics of Zelse's RX8 you can see that the amount of lip provided by the overhead bumper view rule is very limited. That said, the cost of the Joefiss splitter setup is so low it is hard for me to justify building my own. Not sure that I agree with the smaller than allowed rear spoiler though and am still assessing it. Again, the reasonable cost is hard to argue with for it too.

The engine is apart at the builder and was still in very good shape overall. Otherwise everything has been on hold on my car for the past month or so due to the trip. I did get a set of Bogart 17 x 10.5" wheels built. They were completed while I was away and requested that they hold off shipping until after Jan. 1 to avoid the holiday mess.

Just to clarify, it is everything beyond the bumper outline, not just the 6" part. If you only take the 6" off the corner areas still protrude. I know that you intended the same thing, just making sure someone doesn't glance and read it incorrectly.

Nothing can protrude beyond the overhead bumper view for the entire perimeter.

I think i'm set for wheels.

The wheels are not that light, but the extra weight is in the hub pad on a tight radius. In retrospect we could have gone a 1/2" wider on the outer shell and the same amount less on the inner shell with a 1/2" thinner hub pad and still had enough brake caliper clearance. On paper it looked closer to the caliper than what it ended up being and they were nervous about chancing it.

I would have to say that it probably makes more sense to go buy three sets of the newish 17x10 +50 Rota RT5 than one set of these, though they certainly don't have the bling factor. There is always the 17x10 Enkei RPF1 too, but I just don't care for the crappy +38 offset.

I'm going to need to change my speedway sway bar from the current straight arm design to a bent arm design with a shorter center section. The straight arm design was ok with the narrower wheels, but with the 10.5's sunk in so deep the inboard rim lip is going to hit the swaybar arm end where it attaches to the center bar. Otherwise they appear to clear everything else fine.

it may be at least three or more months before my car is back together. I'm expecting to miss at least the first half of the season and don't expect to be any threat at all this year, if ever.

I just got mine back together after the subframe explosion at nationals. I was hoping to see more RX-8s at the east coast ProSolos.

It was a good battle. Not having a tire warmer definitely hurt me as the BMW had 2 drivers and some tire blankets.

Other than that the car feels great, it will be going on the dyno next week. Also, i'm still on my STX spring rates of 560/400. Thinking about going a bit stiffer, anyone wanna throw out some numbers?

Since nobody else has thrown out any numbers, I'll start: 900/550 with a relatively stiff front bar (~1000 lbs/in) and experiment with no rear bar vs. a stock Miata rear bar. I've never driven a car on Hoosiers, so take that suggestion with a grain of salt ;)

Ran down in Altanta yesterday with the Racing Beat sway bar back on the rear. The car transitioned better but i'm still getting a little bit of push on corner exit..

How old are the Hoosiers? I know when I was co-driving a DSP BMW, the age of the tires played a huge role in the setup. We would chase newfound pushing/oversteer situations with shock, swaybar, and pressure changes and ended up never really resolving the issue. Put on a fresh set of tires, and all the issues went away. Not masked....Gone!
