Wow, if you haven't seen it before, then it must really be rare! Yeah, they're the original arms, and they're identical on both sides (well, mirrored).

My car is an 05. Did you have an upper control arm crack? The only recall that I know of is for cracked lower arms around the ball joint for 04's.

Hi Flying 8 06-13-2015 10:14 AM

My upper broke first, I'm pretty sure. after it hit the wall, both were gone.

TeamRX8 06-13-2015 01:32 PM

It was the front LCA on 2004 models that was recalled due to failures at the ball joint area

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...-recall-67126/

Have never seen a front UCA like that on any RX8. Even the NC MX5 front UCA looks like the RX8 UCA. That's really strange. Well, you probably should have started with new UCAs any way just looking at the condition ...

Sorry to hear this. Hope you get it fixed sooner rather than later ...

Given that we need to find a new place to live (lease is up end of August and my girlfriend and I have decided we hate roommates), I definitely won't have the money for rebuild, moving/new lease down payment, and Nationals...sooo... Plan is to rebuild it over winter, and rebuild the shocks, and head out there next year. This year will be finish fine tuning the suspension (getting rid of the rear swaybar and lifting the inside rear) and just having fun while dealing with moving and all.

Be sure to give those BMWs a run for their money for me. :)

DAT2RTR 07-08-2015 08:19 AM

Havent updated any of my race results! Ive been busy as hell with other commitments this year so far. Only made it to one event. Not Terribly big, and no-one else in DSP but me.

Great Falls MT EXPO park 7 June- 20th in PAX with a 53.192. First place in PAX was 48.460

18th place in RAW time with a 62.268 First place RAW was 56.447

TeamRX8 07-08-2015 08:07 PM

been hard getting motivated again after the trip to Japan. Got the diff back in, working out some custom front swaybar issues, about to get started on the new manifold/header ... still about a month of work left.

Sgned up for Nats last week, but am not sure I'll make it in time.

Just remember Team, it could always be worse

Wow...and that ran?

Generally worn out, with a side seal problem on one face.

TeamRX8 07-09-2015 08:57 PM

Considering I have a newly rebuilt $$$ engine that would be a lot worse  but am sad for you because nobody wants to see those kind of results

Definitely side seal, fairly common failure point. Was it puking oil into the intake too?

On a side note, I'm glad I'm not the only one who says this. Lost compression isn't "lost"...its just spread out over a larger volume...like....the crank case. Lol

DAT2RTR 07-09-2015 10:47 PM

That's the strangest thing. It starts fine. Cold or hot. Hot takes a hair longer, but it's not like it dies at lights or takes forever to crank. Runs fine other than that, it's slow as hell, 146whp. It's the original motor as well. 105k miles.
The intake is wet with oil more times than not, I always assumed that that was because of me "overfilling" it. 99% sure that I didn't. But that was the general concensus.
I bought a 3rd party extended warranty when I bought the car, but didn't know enough about the car to ask for a compression test. So, we'll see what happens when I call them tomorrow and see what my options are. Synchros are shot. Hopefully I'll get a new trans out of the deal as well.

DAT2RTR 07-09-2015 10:50 PM

Mike, I drove it 360 miles today, beginning of June I drove it ~1400 miles round trip to Montana, and autocrossed while I was there. :dunno:

TeamRX8 07-10-2015 12:17 AM

Nope, when the engine has a side sealing issue the lost compression/gasses escapes into the oil system/sump and then pushes oil into the intake. It's not as obvious on 2006+ models because they changed the the oil sump venting line from the oil filler neck line to the LIM instead of before the throttle body. So it mostly just pukes oil to directly into the engine. Regardless, I have neen trying to explain here on the forum for the last several years that oil in the intake for an NA engine (if you clean it out and it comes back again shortly) typically means the engine is on the way out. As you noted, power goes down, down, down ....

Back in 2005 when I first bought and autocrossed an RX8 ( and was ignorant) i ran 1 qt overfill and never puked oil. Overfilling to the extreme can cause an issue, but 1 extra quart over racing on Hoosiers never caused a problem.

.

skc 07-11-2015 07:47 PM

At one stage I had a lot of oil comming out of the oil filler neck. I did a decarb and now maintain a regular decarb routine and I only get a slight amount of oil in the catch can on my FI car.

TeamRX8 07-13-2015 07:42 AM

Forced induction is not applicable here. This thread topic only involves NA engines. FI has blowby as a result of positive intake pressure even with perfect seals. Not to mention you run an SC that builds boost slowly with rpm, unlike a turbo that can peak and hold boost over a wider rpm range. And your boost level is not really that high any way. Then there was the rerouting of your catch can vent lines this past week so it wasn't sending pooled oil from the catch can back through the LIM, so your result may change now. Ultimately your situation just isn't relevant here.

DAT2RTR 07-13-2015 08:13 AM

That, and this is an rx8 in DSP trim discussion. That being said, I wish I had FI.

DAT2RTR 08-10-2015 11:45 AM

Dropped off the car at the dealership on Friday. They can fight with the warranty company. Hopefully ill get a new motor and trans out of the ordeal.

TeamRX8 08-10-2015 02:14 PM

Sorry for not responding back to your PM. Have made little progress. Just too hot here lately (100+). Cancelled my entry to Nationals. Would rather take my time and race another day rather than stress out ...

DAT2RTR 08-10-2015 02:59 PM

Life has a way of doing that. Top Gun challenge in Helena MT is this weekend. and there was a local autox on sunday. Unless i race the impreza on some terrible BRZ tires im probably going to be done for the season as well. yay...

TeamRX8 09-08-2015 10:36 PM

So Mike Kuhn had a solid 2nd run today in DSP at the 2015 Solo Nationals and was leading until one of the BMWs snuck around on the final run. He's sitting in 2nd place in striking range for the possible win tomorrow.

TeamRX8 09-09-2015 01:45 PM

Looks like the BMW standing in 3rd yesterday leap-frogged the top two for the win. Mike still put his RX8 on the podium with a 3rd place finish. Congratulations!

TopGear8 09-09-2015 09:16 PM

Thanks Mark! Yesterday's course was more momentum and Technical so it suited my car. Today was nothing but a power course. Only thing I did new this year was a OSGiken. Recently bought my first house so I hadn't made any changes to the car lately. I'm happy with 3rd, even tho second place was there, just over drove the second day. Next year I'm hoping to finally start adding more power and going to 295s over 275s.

BRODA 09-09-2015 10:16 PM

Congrats Mike!
