New BS Light Wheels Thread

The old thread has a lot of discontinued wheels listed on it. So, what's still available these days for us that's lightweight and legal, from standard retail channels (non-custom)?

O.Z. Ultraleggera - 48 offset, 18.4 lbs, 335$/each from TR
SSR Comp H - 48 offset, 17.5 lbs, 469$/each from TR
Rota P1 - 48 offset, 19.0 lbs, 187$/each from some random company
Kodiak - ? offset, 16 (?) lbs, 735$/each from Kodiak

Anything else anyone knows about worth getting?

chetrickerman 01-09-2008 03:48 PM

Enkei RPF1 i believe they are 17.5 lbs for 18x8.5 +35

CodingParadox 01-09-2008 03:51 PM

Only comes in 35 offset. =/ Stock offset is 50, so needs to be between 45-55mm offset to be legal for BS.

ULLLOSE 01-09-2008 04:19 PM

Just an FYI... Once the stock of SSR Comp H at 17.5 is sold out, they will be replaced with the SSR Comp Type C RS at 18.5 lbs.

So that makes the OZ, and the Rota P1 look like the best options.

Whats a guys with a $4k set of shocks care what a set of wheels cost? You spent the money on the wrong part. ;)

Hey, money's for spending. ;-) (And they only cost 2k, I got Barbara's shocks. I'm tired of getting killed on the supertight courses at Everett, among other things.)

I sure hope you don't think that is what will allow you to keep up with Joe.

CodingParadox 01-09-2008 04:52 PM

Hahahah - no, I'm just hoping to lose by slightly less to the local Solstices. :D

We're gonna have a fun BS crew here this year - Steve and I will be codriving my car, and George and Joe will be codriving Joe's car. Should be a good year.

Thanks for starting this thread - the old one had a lot of non-legal wheels listed.

+1 For the Ultraleggeras and Rotas being the best current options.

CodingParadox 01-09-2008 06:29 PM

Anyone have any actual data on how heavy those Rotas are?

P1 is 19.2.

mwood 01-09-2008 07:30 PM

Kodiak can make 16lbs wheels...about $2200/set, last time I checked.

I've seen the set which Daryl made for Team, that then went to Presley and are now in the Bay Area with Glen...they're nice :)

Now that he has the design down, the only real question is how long to build...anywhere from one month to four months, I've heard. Still, nice wheels and in our application, I don't think breakage should be an issue.

Mine are coming in on Friday, and the first thing I'm doing is throwing them on a scale. I'll report back.

I thought so too, but when I posted some pics here the h8rs came out of the woodworks so I pulled them off :dunno:

I have to disassemble and reseal the one set I still have, that's one big PITA job :icon_no2:

oh and those were owned by clyde between me and Mark

Where did you buy yours? I may be looking to get a set in the next 2-3 weeks.

the offset is irrelevant since he posted the width as 8.5" :eyetwitch

www.subydude.com

They show them on the website with too small of a hub bore, so you need to either e-mail or call them to get them to fit the RX-8. They have a few in stock with the Mazda bore, or they'll get whatever you want machined out to fit. I paid $850 shipped including the machining fees.

chickenwafer 01-09-2008 11:16 PM

I have Gram Lights 57 Maximums, 18x8.5" +45mm and they weight 17.5-lbs

Edit, nevermind, they're 8.5" width. I don't think the Grams come in 8" widths, only 7.5" and 8.5"

I will be very interested to see your results on weight and fitment. I would also be great to see a picture of the drilled out hub center and know if you're still able to fit a center cap on the wheel after that process.....:)

you don't understand, their narrower 8.0" & 8.5" wheels weigh MORE than the 9.5" wheel

This is the back of a P45 after I opened it up, you only go in about half way, so the cap will still snap in. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2157/...65d2df.jpg?v=0

btw the flat center cap that comes with most Rota wheels will not clear the rear axle on the RX-8. You need to ask for the GT3 or Track R cap.

No Kidding, I just spent almost 2 hours taking the wheels apart so I can get the centers anodized.
