He's a former National Champion in an MR2 Turbo. The fastest one of those was a few places down from cars listed, in 13th, just out of trophies. Looks like most of the top guys are former National champs. Congrats to Dennis Sparks and Mike Cavanaugh representing the Southeast along with Jim Reyenga in that MR2 turbo I mentioned, and Aaron Buckley (NoCones might have trophied without jury duty)who is the only top guy on Hoosier tires. (oops noticed that Jason Munchof is also on Hoosiers in 8th right before Bimmer). Pedalfaster is the last trophier in an RX8 even though he claims his Porsche 968 is still competitive.

Keep in mind this is just one course. They run the other course tomorrow and both times are added together to determine the winner.

Sipe (Team RX8) had cone problems that kept him near the bottom of STU with 2 cones on his fastest run which added 4 seconds to his time. With clean runs he would have been around the same time as Jason McCall who was the fastest RX8 in 19th out of 48 cars.

I'm kind of glad I didn't get that ride with Sipe now. His co-driver is DFL. If Sipe can't get a handle on the car mods, I sure know that I could never figure it out!

We got a verdict late Monday...just late enough that there was really no reasonable way to make it out there. At least the defendant has been put away for a while...1 count of 2nd degree murder and 1 count of attempted 1st degree murder...about 40 years minimum.

Congrat to ULLOSE who made his screenname true two years in a row. Aaron Buckley (B1immer) moved up two places to 5th and Dennis Sparks stayed at 6th as a newcomer to Nationals. He is an engineer who was recently involved in the selection of a new light utility helicopter for the Army. Looks like Iain is a good driver and is likely to do well again next year in Keith Casey's car.

Mark Sipe (TeamRX8) in STU ran much faster today with a time that looks like about 14th quickest but he could not overcome yesterday's cones obviously. Jason McCall slowed for some reason finishing 29th out of 48. Sorry guys.

Any rain at all?? Conditions better with rubber on the ground? Is the sand they keep talking about blowing from elsewhere or generated by rubber and asphalt pieces?

4 places actually...from 9th...awesome drive today.

Frustrating to not be there, but I'm thrilled for Aaron...we've been co-driving for 4 years with 3 different cars now...unfortunately (for me) he's clearly passed me in the driving department now...damnit, I used to beat him all the time!

1 more RX-8 year in me I guess...but thinking about what might come next...

My bad on Aaron. After all the changes you guys made to your ST cars the last few years to finish pretty poorly, looks like you guys couldn't get a handle on the ST mods either. If you switch cars, better stay stock....

Looks like Keith Casey coned his way out of a much higher position with cones on all his day 2 runs. Bummer.

The BMW M3s did pretty well in STU so guess we can't blame it all on AWD. Not sure what the story is for the STU RX8s.

From out here, Asher was the real story. We knew the top 3 guys were capable of great times (and congrats to Jason, Carter, and Joe), but Asher really stepped up to the plate and separated himself from the rest of the pack taking the much coveted 4th spot.

Great Job!!!!

Didn't last long. I had a really bad day and probably dropped the most spots of anyone, 8th to 18th. I'll be back next year in the trophies!

I still had a good time and it was nice to put some faces to the names on the forum. There was some great competition and it's really cool to see a 350z so close to the top. We should see more of them coming out now. Thanks to edj for the co-drive. Maybe if his car wasn't so slow we would've done better.

Oh, and congrats to my homeboy Isley on the back-to-back championships!

As an aside, it's pretty cool that eight of the ten trophy winners are active on this forum. The 968 forums aren't nearly as active.

come on now...put Jason in a 350 z and he'd kick their butt again. There is a lot to say about being a good driver, regardless of the car.

I think the 350Z will be the new BS car to have now that somebody has placed so well at Nat's in one. I think more drivers will try this car and once its sorted, watch out. On paper I could never understand why it wouldn't dominate BS and I think its now only a matter of time. I guess we'll see.

Because in race trim it weighs 400 lbs more than an RX8. Carter drove great, no doubt the 4th run he got did not hurt him however he did not need it as he already had 2nd locked up, he has shown that BS is not a one car class. In the last two years we have seen the RX8 take the top spot but the 968, 350Z and MR2 Turbo have all been in the top 10.

With age and experience will come the wisdom not to draw broad conclusions from one event's results.

The weight difference between a prepped RX-8 and a prepped 350Z is actually more in the vicinity of 250 lbs (reference: http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php...&f=11&t=235671), but the 350Z has other disadvantages too, namely minimal and non-adjustable front camber, and a viscous limited slip differential which can't nearly keep up with the car's torque. Making one go fast requires patience and a well-calibrated right foot.

Carter's absolutely shown that the 350Z can win Nationals, but having driven all three of B Stock's top contenders, I'd say that the RX-8's the easiest to set up and drive quickly. That, combined with its practicality and the fact that it's cheaper than the 350Z, suggests to me that it will continue to make up the majority of BS fields in the years ahead.

Agreed. Talk in grid quickly went from "who the heck is this Asher guy?!?" to "whoa, check out Asher's times!"

Nice drive!

Nice drive!
Plus, I bet he won the "show and shine" portion of the event.

Great rookie drives by both Asher and Dennis...hope I'll see you two at some events again next year. However, I hope you don't have the experience I have of trophying at your first nationals, missing the trophies the next 2 years, and then missing nationals altogether the next 2!
