NASA members?

I'm thinking of joining NASA.
http://www.nasaproracing.com/

Seems like a good bunch and they have lots of DEs and solo I events in my area.
And you get a subscription to GRM with your memebership

Anyone a member or attended their events? I think we have at least one NASA instructor on the forum.

I'm an SCCA and a NASA member. There are several members here on this forum. Check out the SE forum, we do HPDE's several times a year. The NASA events are very good, I've learned a hell of a lot!

^^I am one of them too. I learned a lot last weekend at RoadAtlanta. Seems to me like a good group. Especially if you plan to track your car a few times a year.

More NASA members here, but they go much faster than any of us. I'd like to have one of them as an instructor sometime.

Yes, NASA folks are great, as well as SCDA, COM, BMWCCA, and others....in fact I've yet to find a group that organizes car events that is not top drawer...no they are not all exactly the same, but the DNA behind them all is driving enjoyment, and helping anyone who wants to, to do so safely and with skill. Great instruction and instructors and highly recommneded all.

Your damn right we are great. I am an instructor with the South Florida Region. We run events at Moroso, Sebring and Homestead. This months Grassroots Motorsports Magazine does an article on HPDE and hi-lights our region.

If anyone does live in the area and signs up for an event, ask to have me as your instructor. Several members of this forum have and it's been great. Best fun is when I take them out in my car and show them what 30+ years of racing and drivers schools can lead to. Best advise I can give anyone is " SEAT TIME". Get as much of it as you can to improve. Than bring the car up to your level. Of course I don't listen to my own advise. Changing the suspension again to improve handling...

thanks for the input guys, I'm signing up for NASA. They are now starting to become prominenent here in the midwest and do several HPDEs within 250 miles of where I live (chicago area).

I agree that BMW CCA is also good. I'm doing my third school this year with them next month. I also might join SCCA. They do 2 schools in my region and I might hit up some of their autocrosses.

I just joined NASA a few months ago. Their trackday at Mid-Ohio was top-notch.

I've been thinking about it but I also realize their DEs are lot more expensive than those I used to go to! It really adds up over the course of a season.

How much are they?

The ones I was looking at were like $175/day. That's not too bad and you get some additional liability insurance coverage...

Anyway from $100 to $125 per day. Less if you don't require an instructor.

>..... you get some additional liability insurance coverage
I doubt they're used to cover your car or yourself. They're general track insurance for the organizer only.

The track insurance is for the group promoting the event and people like myself (instructor) to keep others, stupid over agressive students or the innocent, from suing if they screw up and take someone out.

I think it also protects students from instructors suing them (a more likely scenario ) and also protects any other members from general liability.

I assume that is the case which is similar for SCCA members at all SCCA sanctioned events.

Hey BlueRenesis82,

I joined. They ran Road America last April and will probably run it again.

Putnam Park in October anyone?

So if I have 6 track days (3 2 day BMW schools) should I still start in HPDE1 or can I start in a higher run group?

I currently run in the intermediate run group with BMW CCA. I was placed there after my first school and have done 1 school in the intermediate group where I fit in well. I'll do one more BMW school in September before I do any NASA events.

The chief instructor of the event should be the one to place you. It will depend on experience based on number of events, number of events at a certain track and if you have a log book - its comments. Even if you are in an intermediate group (I would never move a one time student there) you should still have partial time with an instructor.
