Glad to hear you had a good time. I've been meaning to go ever since I bought my 8, but havent had the opportunity. A friend of mine owns an s2k and invited me to go with him the next time the s2k guys go out, but i would rather be with other 8's . Any idea on the next time you're going?

I think there won't be any races until spring tijme when the new season starts. Your very welcome to come up to dallas and drive with us. The S2k is a beautiful car, and a very good competitor. If i were you, i would find as many oppurtunities to go, whether that be with other 8s or even S2ks.
I'll keep you posted as the new season approaches.

There is a Houston region autocross this Sunday at Gulf Greyhound Park. Full details at the web site at http://www.houscca.com/solo2/solo2.aspx
BS runs first, so be sure to be there by 7. Online registration can be done through the site as well.

Ride Naked!
Get some good pictures! I'm in auto-x withdrawl and need to race vicariously through you guys. Damn I envy you guys that run all year. Our season ended in October and won't start again until April. All I can do is play GT3 and wait for spring!

We do have a couple advantages tho to not running year round...
1) We get to play in Snow. Like, drive sidways in it. Nothing better than this (well there is one) to hone your smooth inputs.
2) We can ice race. This REALLY shows you that you need smooth inputs.
3) We can plan and formulate over the winter our plan of attack and actually work on the cars without having to worry about having it ready next week*.
4) We don't spend as much money on our hobby... no entrance fees every week, or mods that we try and have done every week or two. :D
5) Time home with the animals (or kids if you have them).. oh, and the wife too. BUt when the season comes around, we won't be home that much.
So there ya have it... 5 distinct advantages.
--kC
* That is if you don't get everything shipped to you the week before the 1st event in April.

Hey Dark8 ... I got the perfect cure for you. I don't know how much you're into computer games but I suggest getting yourself one of these and then get this. There are some good driving sims out there... the one I have linked even lets you build your own autocross courses and race on them One of the cars in the game is very similar to a 2nd gen rx with a 3rd gen motor, pretty fun. There's another game called racer thats free... you can google for it and its free. I know there's an rx-8 available for it but its kinda hard to configure
Its gonna help me get through the winter... being in Boston, our season is quite short up here... oh well.

Hey Imp, I noticed that after you posted hehe. I'm new to the scene here, finally got a car capable of fun auto-x in stock form (the 8 of course). I've never ran a full season, just a few fun runs here an there in friend's cars, BMW free autox, and mazda rev-it-up in 2003. I got 2nd for the day in my class at MRIU... not nearly the success that you've enjoyed there I'm an auto-x newbie for sure, but I definately want to run the full season at devens with ner next year. I've always wanted to get serious about amature racing so next year it begins :D
I'm living in brighton atm... devens isn't too far from beantown is it?
Can't wait to get my a** handed to me in BS next year

Well 1st and formost... you'll be in Novice Stock going against the other novices. So you have that going for ya. Really the 1st year doing auto-x should be about learning the course, and taking instructors out to get your feet wet. Setting a good foundation quickly will help you more in the long run as you don't want to develop bad habits early and then have to un-learn them a couple years down the road. Just focus on your driving in the beginning... and finding the course.
Ft Devens is 10 min from the Rt 2/495 intersection. I live in Somerset, so it's about 1.5 hrs for me, but you're definitely under an hour.

Ah yes, novice stock... forgot all about it being way down there on the standing sheets Sounds good to me, a year to figure out the track and my car minus the pressure from the veterans. I'll surely be keeping an eye on your runs though... hopefully pick up some pointers :D
