Maybe Ito had the thread removed because he is going to open a vendor account on the board and knows the "rules". Maybe he didn't want to disclose info because something is coming to market. Maybe he really is Racing Beat's test mule and they are coming to the board as a vendor -- with their ECU re-flash, etc. There are other possibilities other than he got sick of the criticism and left.

And maybe an infinite number of monkeys flew out of my butt, cracked his password and typed a request to the moderators asking his posts be deleted. Hey, with an infinite number of monkeys anything's possible. :)

Before the thread was deleted he posted the following:
1. He did not want to publically disclose what he did.
2. His shop is too busy and he doesn't want to be paid to improve anyone else's car the same way.

I would have left. I can barely stand to read most the crap on here anymore.

It's simple.

The Judge pulled 240 at the wheels. Some people choose not to believe. Some people choose not to believe without proof. Some people choose to believe with the limited proof (dyno slip). And some people choose to believe. Regardless, the Judge pulled 240 at the wheels, believe it or not.

Sure, there are plenty of good threads on our forum detailing performance enhancements, and plenty of others that don't. One thing's for sure ... none of those "good" ones ever pulled 240 at the wheels.

The fact we don't immediately know how it was done, seems to be some sort of issue with some. For the rest of us, we'll patiently wait to find out in due time.

I do agree with cortc. This forum could use a little more mutual respect, humility, patience and generally decent treatment for it's current, and now former (most unfortunate)members.

Nope. If someone tells you, "I found a way to get free ice cream but I won't tell you how" then guess what? That's a tease. They may claim they don't want to tell you because their source will get cut off but then why brag about it at all except simply to brag?

If someone posted saying they have a wheel that can fit a 275/35-18 tire up front without rubbing but refused to say what wheel, offset or even if a spacer was used then what's the point of posting? Few people like a showoff.

I don't agree with this, but I'm not here to argue either, what he's doing/did, if truly relevant, will show up in some form or another. I still don't consider it a tease as he clearly stated that when it does come out he will help people with doing it, but that's irrelevant. I think I need a break from this site as well so adios for now fellow members.

[Edit] - OK, I found it. Big deal - same tease, he even got accused of teasing over there. He still provided no information about the secret mod. Yawn. When there is real information available, then I'm interested. Otherwise, so what? It would be no different than if someone else said "I plugged in an E-Manage, spent 2 months tuning, and got 40 more hp - but I'm not going to tell anybody how I connected it or how it's tuned". Useless information - oh, but in the second case the hypothetical poster at least would have given a hint! ;)

I think the big picture here is that he has something real. Whether he is stuck in some nondisclosure agreement or perfecting whatever it is that he has done he has said he will reveal it in time. Most of the criticism is not needed at all. The solid info we got was a dyno sheet (while not complete info it is solid, ok I'll stop playing on words soon). Again he did say what he did not do which brings us closer to what he did do. He cannot say AT THIS TIME but he has found something great. This NOW attitude is going to eventually cost us. People think he is teasing us but I personally consider a tease something we will never get. I think whatever this is will be within our grasps!

The worst part of the whole thing is that Ito claimed to be helping the community by providing information, but he didn't provide anything expect that he made more HP at the wheels. He provided NO information on how, posted very cloudy messages to avoid being hunted by Mazda, and in the end showed that the thread was absolutely worth nothing except a dyno sheet.

When he is ready to provide concrete info that will actually inform the rotary community, that is the time to post a new thread and educate us on what he did.

rotarygod Aug 26, 2004 04:29 PM

The problem isn't that people don't believe he pulled 240 hp. The issue is that he originally claimed the car was stock and hat he pulled 240. He later admitted that it wasn't but it looked stock. He was for some reason or another reluctant to tell us how he did it at this time due to pressure from big brother Mazda looking over his shoulder. He did say he'd eventually tell us. That should have ended all of the flaming but it didn't. A couple of people just insisted on being dicks (and admit it btw). The fact of the matter is that Ito is used to people on the other forums believing what he says because he always does end up proving it later on. He didn't get that here. This forum is more mature than the other forums in many ways but this was the exception. I admittedly hasseled him about it not being stock at first but I am content with his response and the fact that he'll show it later. He knows I don't have issues with him. I just hate secrets. It is unfortunate that a few people here have caused one of the really intelligent rotary people to leave. The blame lies here on this forum.

You're all going to time-out now, you should be ashamed ...

Credibility and posts

Hi all. I signed up here recently (first time Mazda owner, Black RX8) to watch the Ito thread about the 240 WHP.

I am very interested and believe that these kinds of improvements should be possible from the RX8. However, it's tough to know as a newbie who is regarded highly and who is not. The RX8Club forums allow for titles like "Moderator", but after that, there is no consistency. ITO's profile wasn't really filled out with much detail as I recall and there is a real lack of acknowledged expertise here except for Canzoomer and a very few others.

Perhaps there could be a thread that discusses this topic, maybe a "hall of fame" thread.

It would certainly cut down on the bashing and could be a good place for newbs like me to go before responding to a post.

Here's a fun idea, although I doubt it could be implemented: something like a "was this post helpful to you?" button that users could click as they read a thread. This information is stored in a user's profile by forum. When reading posts in a thread, the users's "helpfullness rating" for that forum would appear as part of their user info; say after the total posts count.

Pro: gives readers a quick index of how helpful/informative/interesting a person's posts are likely to be in a given forum. Separating by forum means someone who gives great audio/video advice doesn't have a high count for wheels/tires--unless they're knowledgeable about both.
Con: lots of extra bookkeeping (no multiple votes by same user), potential for vote favoritism/abuse, still takes time to gain favorable hits.

It would be a fun feature though.

The thread was hidden at Judge Ito's request, but it is no longer. Also, he's sick of the badgering here, so he requested his user ID be locked, which we did. The haters and bashers have run off another potential developer for the '8.

No rules were broken, we did it out of respect for his wishes. End of topic.
