How NOT to autocross.

Might be old, might not. But fun to watch... feel free to critique his hand positions, steering inputs.. etc.

Too much horsepower & not enough talent is a very good thing, for the spectators.

O..........MY............GOD. Somebody should tell him its an autocross not a drag strip. He would go faster if he took 2 of the spark plug wires off. And for god's sake tune that suspension.

I ran a V6 car in CP and managed to take a local win. One of my competitors ran at the nationals.

As it's a CP fox body mustang, it's probably closer to 2,700-2,800lbs.

I enduranced raced a 5.0 back in the mid 90's. Even properly set up, it was an exercise in overstreer/understeer/oversteer/understeer - all in the same corner! Success involved driving these cars very smoothly though the corners - basically get it straight before applying any power, lol.

We used to laugh that if you saw a 5.0 at the body shop, it would probably have front-end damage - straight on, with the wheels fully cranked.

That was pathetic. He was jerking the wheel so much it's as if he wanted to induce oversteer. Oh well. Someone has to make us look good I guess.

The funniest part was that he would start driving like a mad man that just robbed a bank in a movie. Then after each crash he would get mad and swear like he was doing nothing wrong and it was the car's fault. The fact that he continued to not learn from his past experience(s) just floored(no pun intended) me.

Wow. Talk about having a big gun and no idea how to use it. Power is nothing without control.

Wow...how has he not been banned from the league...?
Staff is probably laughing to hard at him to fill out the paperwork.

props to being man enough to post his stuff online.

It's easy to criticize, but how well could any of us do in that car?

Great post and thanks for sharing on how not to autocross.

Reminded me of my Stang days autocrossing back in '95 with a supercharged cobra barreling down the straightaways and praying that the car would make it through each corner without sliding it's backend loose without warning. (something it would do at the drop of a hat when it's limits were easily reached)

Funny thing is, learning how to control your supercharged 5.0 solid axle hunk o junk makes you a better driver, although, no matter how good my autocross friend and I got with our supercharged 5.0's, we never could beat a simple 'ol miata when twisties were involved. Fast forward 10 years later, and he and both own rotary powered mobiles (he's got an FD, me with the 8) and we just look back on the days muscling our behemoths through the cones and wondering what were we thinking bringing these to autocross events, but we learned a valuable lesson in those years of tryin'.. power without control is pretty much useless unless you're goin' straight.

and I agree w/parkpy comments- those who can drive an older V-8 fox body well through the apexes and control them through the switchbacks deserve credit just for tryin!
