How to identify TRANNY Production Year

Is there any way someone can confirm the production year of a RX8 tranny ?

Reason I'm asking is because I'm about to purchase a 2008 Tranny for a great price but I want to make sure the seller is actually telling the truth.

I've searched all over the internet and thru this website but no luck... I hope anyone can reply with the answer soon... thanks for the support

There is a tag on the right side, maybe there is some info on it?

You could probably pull the serial number and call MNA...I have no idea...judging by the picture above, I would assume that tag has some useful information on it...

thanks guys defenitely a great answer.....

But by the serial #'s on that tag I guess I can track the production year & VIN # the tranny was partout from ?

Sorry to ask this, but I haven't seen anyone try these before, that's why I'm so curious
you know... last thing I need is a search warrant for stolen parts... I want to buy the 2008 tranny but I have to assure it's legit...

I'm not sure what is on that tag...if there is a serial number, I would assume that Mazda would have a record of what year the trans was produced and maybe even a vin of the vehicle that it came out of (or was originally installed in at least). I don't blame you for trying to find out if the guy is lying, but it seems the bigger issue would be whether he is lying about the year and subsequently the mileage rather than whether or not the trans is stolen...cops aren't gonna tear your car apart looking for stolen parts lol

lol... i get what your saying about the cop issue... jejee

eventually the seller is stating the tranny is from a 2008 with less than 30,000 miles on it, I just want to prove his honesty by searching and confirming those tag numbers... if I can get the VIN# I can probally get a history if the car was totalled, stolen etc.... let's see how this turns out... at some times GOOGLE can be your best friend but sometimes lol.. it feels like a mistery ...

Thanks for the update and your suggestions.. very helpful

i have a "great price" for you. i have 2 transmissions. $200 each.

both need a rebuild. one is pre-disassembled for you. haha...

now, this is where im confused. the disassembled transmission looks like its perfect. the gears have no wear, no shearing. it looks perfect. im confused as to why the dealership told me it needs to be replaced. honestly, it looks like it just needs to be put back together....

i can post pics of the entire disassembled tranny. but if someone can tell me of what to take pics of.... that might help. because this trans looks perfect. im not quite understanding why they told me it needs to be rebuilt.

I looked at all my transmissions today. The tag was identical on all of them.
