I will also say this - the fact he posted that first clip of his "Autocross, Best Of", shows the guy has a great sense of humor.

Most people would never let that footage make the light of day.

I remember going into my first autocross the only thing i knew how to do was heal-toe. I thought i was going quick by downshifting into first at any given chance.

I also took out a row of about 8 cones while going backwards on the 3rd Turn of my very first run (Hey - it was raining, leave me alone ). I've been hooked ever since

A year later and he still cant find the apex. I guess driving around the middle of the track is better than in the woods.

Yep, turn in was all over the board...early, late, correct...the only thing that was consistent was coasting into mid turn, then downshifting after the apex to drive off turn...

Drifterx, I don't think you helped your pal's cred...he's still driving like a tool...nice shorts, though and he didn't seem to hit anything, this time

Dear John

Dear John,

You SO CANNOT DRIVE!! What happened to slow in fast out??? This guy needs some serious finesse before he kills himself.

God forbid does he hold a road licence?? Watch out over there if you see him on the road run for them thar hills.....!!!

He has no idea of APEX, throttle control, braking markers or anything and from his drifting he's not too good at that either...just a lucky break.

There's a line in good movie, "Don't drive angry now" he should listen to this and instead of getting all those lovely gauges and crap get some lessons and learn to drive......

From someone who can drive and knows when someone can't!

BS... I have driven a number of stock and highly modded Rustangs... Including a buddies 95' Cobra R that won a ESP natl championship and his Mach 1 that won an FS title. He just can not drive based on the video we have seen.

I have owned and raced:

4. C4 Corvette's
3. M1/M2 Miata's
RX7tt
MX6
RX8

I would have to say over the last 13 years with co-driving and instructing newbies I have driven 100+ various cars at autocrosses.

When he hit the tree, I loved how he gassed it at the entrance to the corner. I wonder why he didn't turn and hit a tree. He needs to start out in a Miata or something. He is trying to use the power of the car to make fast lap times instead of skill and control. Even in the second video. Grasshopper needs to learn control first.

I open tracked my modified '89 Mustang LX and mostly stock (big brakes and Victoracers) '02 GT. I've also vintage raced a '66 Sunbeam Tiger with a built 306. In other words, I have lots of track time in cars with more power than handling.

The fact is that "John" seems very tenative, unsure of where he should be braking and where he should be accelerating, and not driving the line in most places. Sure, the car might be difficult to drive for him, but that would only make him slow and not be an excuse for the errors in basic technique. "John" would have been much better off saving the money he spent on that stroker motor and spending it on a Russell or Barber course!

BTW, what organization lets anyone, even newbie run group, out on track in short sleeves and shorts? That's pretty crazy!

I didn't even notice that but yes that's crazy....we have to wear non flammable clothing covering arms and legs and closed shoes...

I wonder if he had sandles on as well!!!

Seems to me that the organisers of these events are too concerned about their safety and legal responsibilities either!

well some HPDE's have pretty lax rules, and while I've yet to run down any trees I probably overdrove as bad as this guy did in my early years too ...

Yeah...and, yeah. I guess the only difference is that we didn't record our "learning curve" and then share it with the world on the 'net...not sure if that's good or bad, though

I still think the dood would have been better off spending the motor money on a driving school....

I don't think the hills would be safe.
From the looks of these videos, I'd just stand in the apex, pretty sure he'll never find you there.

I think he did jump one curb at or somewhere near the apex.
