Helmet! I don't need no stinking helmet

But the SCCA sez I do. Sold my miata (unlimited headroom), bot an 04 RX8. Unfortunately, I opted for a few creature comforts. I f you saw me drive, you'd know 50 lbs won't make a difference. Anyway, I don't fit. I'm 6'0, with sunroof and helmet i have to lower seat all the way and recline back just to get headroom. Must be a better way. Do some helmets not sit so high? Can the seat be lowered more? Anyone else encounter this? Solutions?

I'm 6'0 and like to drive sitting fairly straight up and have the same problem. Just make sure you lower your seat ALL the way down and then recline it slightly. I find that I still have a great driving position and my head only rubs the roof occasionally. I use a pyrotect closed face helmet. I have a 05 sport though so no sunroof, I actually knew about this problem before I even bought the car. Plus the leather in the GT's is nasty and the sunroof is ugly imo.

Shouldn't have gotten the sunroof. I don't fit in a sunroof car with a helmet on either.

Thanks, guys. no a whole lot of help. Yes, i should have thought about clearance before I bot car. Yes , I should have bot one w/o a sunroof. But I got what I got. I guess I'll go shopping for a helmet and see if some fit more snug. Or, I could always drive like a rapper with my seat reclined a bunch.

The issue is not your overall height, but your inseam. People with short legs have problems sitting in a sunroof equipped RX-8 with an helmet. I solved my headroom problems by getting a Kirkey race seat and swapping it out for track weekends. https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/how-keep-my-head-hitting-roof-92071/ or do a search for ' kirkey'

I went for a ride-a-long during an AutoCross event a few months back and I feel your pain on this one. (I'm 6'6, 225)

yup, same issue here. I hate the leather/power seats and the sunroof. I only use the sunroof anymore so that I make myself think that it was worth it. I'm 6'1'' 175lbs and have a 'large' head so i need a large helmet which doesn't help a bit.

I can't imagine someone 6' or over with a long torso even sitting in an 8 without a helmet in a car with a sunroof. I waited several years before buying one until I could try one on without a sunroof. I guess I eventually need to see if I fit with my helmet on too

Top down, we co-drive the S on nice days and the 8 when it rains or is freezing cold.
