G-TECH meter question?
Hey guys, just got my 8 a few weeks ago and wanted to try some rough tests on it. I took it out tonight and reset it (use to have it spec'd into my 05' GTO and it worked good) to the 8, but had trouble using it.
First off, it does work decent, in my GTO it was within half a second of true times for the vehicle (after taking it to the track/getting other speed vs. time ratings).
Have any of you used the G-tech in your 8? I know it was around 90 today and I do have an auto (so expecting slower times)... but the best it would record was like a 19sec 1/4 mile time. I was able to get some 60fts of around 3.3 seconds which seemed fairly legit, but everything after that didn't really work to well. I reset the rpms/weight and everything when I added the new vehicle/my rx8 into the data bank....
do our cars require me to list an aftermarket ignition or anything different when doing setup for it to record data better? Or does it just not work with the 8's well? Thanks!

I suspect your Gtech is just fine...you are driving a slow accelerating car. My previous experience with a Gtech was about 10 years ago when I had a Cobra.
My quarter mile times were pretty close, but the MPH on the Gtech was usually 4-5 mph higher that what was posted at the dragstrip.

I do realize it's a slow accelerating car, not 19 sec 1/4 mile though regardless of being an auto. Been autoxing/drag strip racing for several years now, so I know how to drive... just trying to figure out why the gtech isn't working correctly for my car.
If there's any other suggestions please post, otherwise I guess it's time to goto the strip and run with it on (or try a better open area).

It's a Cavalier
3.3 sec 60 ft? Did you mean 2.3?
What was your 0-60mph?
As for the 19 second quarter... I have a very tough time finding a full quarter mile of perfectly flat and straight street to go tearing down. Any thing cases a change to the pitch of the car messes with the GTech accuracy, because it cannot distinguish between a physical pitch change and the acceleration of the car.
If the street is flat, it might be right.

Try finding a buddy that is willing to make a few test runs on his/her vehicle. If the Gtech continues to read very slow times, then there might be a problem with the hardware.
Yea, 19 seconds is very slow... like a covered wagon with a team of horses, so maybe there is a prob with the Gtech.
Personally, I always found the MPH readings more useful, even though they are a little high.

I have one and I'll get it hooked up in the 8. What was your g's or whatever (cant remember) it was called set to? You could adjust it in the car setting.

Everything else was set right to my knowledge, I'll check it out again though.
Now that I think of it the surface was a little bumpy in some spots so maybe that put it off some. I'll try to find a different place that is safe and really open/more flat. Thanks for the input on that!
As for the 60ft... the 3.3 is probably again due to the slight bumps since it goes just a tad uphill towards the beginning. Back searching for a better spot I guess hehe. But let me know how the gtech works on your car.

I have dynolicious on my iphone which is pretty damn accurate, I heard the G-techs are a pain in the ***. Your 60' times seem legit due to you inability to launch with an auto. However you should really be in the high 15's low 16's and since youre in an auto, it should stay consistant.
If youre consistantly in the 18-19's, you may need to check coils, plugs, cat or even compression. AT's arent that fast but theyre faster than that!!
