So just rev it to 6000 rpm, and then put it in D. You will cut a hell of a lot of time off your 9.355 seconds, but your transmission may be a little angry at you.

if I had an auto that would be the last thing to do. droping a clutch bomb at 7500 can be done several times prob. with out much damage to the 8. it will catch up to you though. droping the auto into drive while having it at 6k is just insane! you will see your 8 on a flat bed in no time. just my 2 cents.

The automatic FD ran a 14.6 @ 101 and 6.9 sec 0-60. That was with him slamming on the brakes from the top of 2nd gear (75 mph?) because of a train. He has intake and exhaust and a very bad tranny. His 60' was 2.9. He just floored it from idle as well and it took a very long time for the converter to lock up and get boost.
RX8MIAMI if you read this I would like to G-tech your car. You bought flowers from me on Mothers' day, remember. I like the sound of your exhaust. I saw youchasing a WRX on 72 & Galloway a while ago. Nice turn!

For a while the N/A Miata was the flagship sportscar. I owned a 2001 base model 5-speed. It handled and looked like a dream and beat the pants off 200 hp manual Mustangs at street races with 142 hp. It has an excellent launch and tight gears, great balance and limited slip. I think 0-60 was 8 seconds and 1/4 high 15s.

There is more to Mazda's flagship cars than power and straight line acceleration. The suspension is not even set up for drag launches. Today I took two curves on the highway in my wife's RX8 that almost made me crap my pants. The first was a 25 mph onramp that I took at 60 and accelerating. The second was a 95 mph blast through traffic on a very sharp curve. Minimal lean and no tire screetch. I am very impressed. I also routinely take narrow 90 degree corners at 45 mph. Lots of understeer there but slides into the lane perfect. According to Top Gear the 8 ran the same time on track as a 333 hp M3 with the same driver. RX8s regularly beat FDs and Skylines on a road course although they get smoked in the straights. I am very satisfied with the breathtakingly gorgeous RX8 as the flagship car. There is nothing else on the road I would rather drive. I am glad there is a production rotary engine with a warranty and it's N/A to dispel rumors of poor reliability. The Protege and MX5 got turbocharged versions so that should hint at what lies ahead.

BTW I smoked a stick new Si Civic with exhaust and a Mini Cooper too in my wife's stock automatic RX8 with 18s and lots of junk in the car, windows and roof open, and full tank. I also lost by no more than a half a car to a 96 GT Mustang with exhaust and a new BMW 5 series. All these were from a roll.

I dontknow if the automatic 6s is actually fasterthan the automatic Rx8. From thetest drive I had w/it on the highway I remember that it feltlike it got to 60 a little faster than my Rx8 but the 6s was a lot slower gettingto 80. Automatic Rx8 maystill have a faster 1/4 mile

That auto FD with 0-60 in 6.9sec is not running 100%--because stock those are 0-60 5.9/6.0s cars; with those mods he would be able to get to 60 in at least 5.7 if not quicker--I use to have an auto FD with a similar setup. The auto FD perfomed a lot like a stick shift G35 coupe

Yeah the car has major problems (slipping tranny, high mileage, bad brakes) + it was an incomplete run. In it's peak form a year ago it beat a heavier 420 hp car 3 times in a row I was in the pass. seat. It does not feel like that any more. Both his and my FD need a lot of TLC to get back up tp stock specs.

I know this, because A.) I own a Rx-8 automatic (the slowest car I have ever owned), and B.) I drove a new 530i auto while one of our cars were in the shop getting updated. I g-teched it, and with power-braking I got a 6.8. Hell, if you want to go even further; my mom's X5 3.0i which weighs in @ 4,900 lbs. and has 225hp, 214 tq. his 60 in 8.1 Still 1.233 seconds faster to 60.
I have come to the conclusion that if absolutely anyone with an auotmatic claims they got a kill, they are full of crap. Becuase this is one of the slowest cars on the market. I know it is sad to say that, but it is the truth. Go to Edmunds.com and see their minivan comparo; 4 of the 5 minivans are under 9-second 0-60 times.

I own quite the sports car

Troy J.

Well at least it loks good, and handles good....

I have killed quite a few cars in my auto 8 from a roll. I am satisfied with the power of it. You should have bought another car if you wanted drag racing performance. Did you not test drive before you bouhgt? Maybe you felt that it was fast when you did. And you got those times powerbraking in your BMW. I floored it from idle when I got 16.6. I know I can do a lot better but the car is an animal on the highway, turning, brakes and looks department. I don't have a single complaint about the auto 8, I knew what I was getting into plus I know how to drive a rotary engine. Maybe you should trade your car for another BMW or 350Z or some torquey car that is easy to drive. If you don't know the powerband and gears of the 8 it can be very slow. I own an FD so I know what speed is. I also have a convertible 7 so I know how to enjoy style and handling without power. But most people need a big brute engine that goes as soon as you hit the gas. Why did you but the rotary RX8? Especially auto? If it looked and felt fast when you bought it and now you're racing and getting beat I guess you don't know what fast is. I hope you find happiness with the 8 or get another car. Trust me a lot of people would love to trade you. Especially BMWs who have a million look alikes in every city and are high maintenance. I have never seen a BMW guy get comliments like "That is one hell of a car" or "What kind of car is that, it looks like the Batmobile". And RX8s have the performance to back it up.

I have ran a 16.1 (on a beltronics accelerometer, suppose to be more accurate then gtech) w/ power breaking.

i just did one run f-ing around with manual mode on, wich i think hurt b/c i hit the fuel cut or what felt like it. and a bit of weel hop slowed the time.
I did this a few months ago before i got the L re-flash. forgive me but I don't remember the the rest of the numbers but 9 sec 0-60 seems way high

I believe in the 15's are possible, when you do every thing right , and if
a higher stall t/c is ever produced in the aftermarket the a/t owners should kill a lot of other cars on the road

(just remember it easy to lose a race shifting gears, in a/t you can only f- up if your foot miss the gas thingy)

My minivan runs 15.9s stock, no kidding, check this months Car and Driver. 0-60 is 7.5 sec, just punch it and go.

My stock 92 F-150, 4x4 ext cab w/351 runs 0-60 in 10 sec...
