I recently obtained a 04' automatic. The car is gorgeous! But I dragged my moms 02' toyota camry..annnd lost. After the RPM's are up it's fast, but before i got nothing. I raced in the tipto mode. I had a manual audi 1.8t 04' before this and could launch it like a rocket. So... am i doing something wrong or is there some magic button or the car super slow of the start? Also, I've heard and read so many different HP ratings that RX-8's have. Did anybody test their 04 auto out to see the HP?

Guys, how can you pride yourself in a car what can't beat an old women's toyota camry? My girlfriend was driving the car and laughing alll the wayy through. I understand the suspension is amazing, turns are better then any car i've driven short of really high end cars. But off the line, it's depressing. Any tips?

 

There are many cars, SUV's , Pickup trucks that can beat the RX-8 and even more than can beat an AT 8 in a straight line. Now do a few laps on a road course like watkins glen and the camry will be far behind. AS for a tip, sell the 8 and get a V-8 Mustang or GTO you bought the wrong car for your goals. Or you can trade cars with your mom.

 

Or get the MT...havent gotten beat yet...helps if you know how to drive it and mod it properly too...

 

Going from manual to auto?? That's what you did wrong.

I'm not calling it a bad car. I was asking if i'm doing something wrong. I realize the main benefits to this car. Just didn't think that it would be like that of the start. Everyone's soo jumpy. Relax, just asking a question. It's nice to know MY car was voted best of June. I was also forced to get the car, so i want to make the best of it.

 

yes, you are doing something wrong...you are expecting a high-revving, low-torque car to be fast with a 4-speed auto tranny.
