drag race tips

Hi,
I have a stock rx8(manual). Can anyone learn me step-by-step how to make a quick start on drag race.

1) to turn off DSC (the only thing I know)

What next?

A search ( in this forum only ) for " launch " will return more of the same.

tips?

1 dont race anything domestic that is rwd ie GTOs/mustangs/vettes etc.. cuz youll get owned

2 dont race s2000s cuz youll get owned

3 dont race 350s cuz youll get owned

4 certainly dont race rx7s cuz youll really get owned

5 dont race supras, 300zxs, or any other japanese sports car made during the "280 max HP" agreement... cuz youll get owned

6 dont race ANYTHING with a turbo cuz youll get owned

7 dont race cars that "should" yield a close race such as SRT4s or old SLKs cuz even though you have a chance, youll more then likely get owned if your on stock 225ers.

8 dont race anything AWD that isnt a van or suv cuz youll get owned

9 BEWARE of some vans and SUVs because some are faster then our cars from the factory.

10 BEWARE of cheap or old cars that have minor bolt ons. theres a good chance youll get owned.

you want some real tips? buy any of the cars mentioned above or dump 8-10 grand and buy a turbo with some REALLY big rear tires and rims. then youll have a chance against #s 2,3,7,9 and 10 assuming they are bone stock.

good luck!

Or to sum up ghosts 10 point post.

Don't try and drag race your RX8, it's pointless.

oh why such the negative posts.

You should do just fine.....
1st) Reduce the tire pressure out of you rear tires to low 20's
2nd) Read the Nitrous thread in major horsepower upgrades
3rd) I have dragged with both the DSC on, off, and completely off. With completely off I kept spinning my wheels....but I had very high tire pressure ~ 35 or so.
4th) Go early on a "Test and Tune" night....normally on Thursday. Do a bunch of runs before everybody else shows up.....this will give you a chance to ask the guys running the track how to stage your vehicle on the lights.
5th) I hope you have a 6 speed

8 is not really a drag car---- but certain things will help any car-
1- lost all the weight you can--take out back seats, jack's, tools, drain windshild wasker bottle--etc etc--do search
2- pump up front tires to max--better yet buy smaller tires for the front.
3- run a small tires on the rear(same circumfrance as front or the computer will not be your friend) say a 17inch with a very low profile tire---.pressures in the 20's in back--experiment
4- nitrous REALLY helps
5- get you some good sway bars on and shocks which help with wheel hop and weight transfer
6- a good accuate tach
7-K&N filter for intake--
8- lose the cat
9- latest flash
10- keep a dedicated set of spark plugs --just for the track
11- do throttle body mod
12- agency power pulley
13- synthectic fluids everywhere--engine trans and diff.
14 light flywheel
with those things you will have a chance with a good launch agaisnt a lot of cars.
Sometimes I miss the strip but a good road race is like a 30 min drag race!

Equal driver, mod for mod, no RX-8 is going to take a C5 or C6 in a drag race.

On a tight slower speed road course, then I can believe the RX-8 taking a C5.

Was he pulling a camper at the time? It's not a drivers race. A bad driver in a C5 would still whoop a rx-8, unless he's missing every gear it ain't happenin.

here's tip:

do it on the track, not the street

we had a crash & burn street race incident in Reno the other day, kid that pulled out in front of them was killed

Step one

Go to Chevy dealer

Step two

trade foe SS Impala

Now you have a sleeper that can drag race

or Step three

man. no-one give the rx8 enough credit.. sure its no super car... it has 160 lb ft of torque.. but on the street.. and no-one here can say they havnt ran from a roll at least once.. jsut for fun.. even if it was just for a couple seconds.. becuase most have.. its a pretty peppy little car, sure genst muscle cars you get waxed, but gents the cars that are always trying.. like the civics.. you pull pretty hard.. on the track.. its no contest..

drop some mods in yours and tell them you will more than happlily test the drivers ability rather than the cars ability as there s more honor in this. then suggest an run on a few curves and see if the idiot is willing to put up cash....

I think OD suggested sway bars because of wheel hop. Does a rear sway bar not help with that?
