Competition Licenses?

Competition Licenses?
Confused about this whole issue....
What are they used for?
Do they differ from the SCCA licence they send your with enrollment or application for a hard card?
Do you need one for Pro-Solo or National Tour events?
EDIT: I think i found my answer online, these are only required for Club racing?

Comp license is indeed necessary to participate in sanctioned races.
You've got to acquire one either by attending the SCCA Race School (in the case of getting an SCCA sanctioned license) which grants you a Novice license. Or by attending an accredited Race School like Skip Barber or Panoz which basically gives you the right to a Regional Competition License after successful completion of a 3 day race curriculum.
