Clutch drops and burnouts

I've never done one in the 8. I'm too afraid of breaking something. Sure, a stock 8 shouldn't have much problem, but I'm still gun shy. The rear end doesn't look much beefier than the stock one that was in the Miata (Now has a TII back end). When I pulled the stock one, the turning gears felt and sounded like a bicycle chain half engaged.

What RPM are you guys dropping the clutch at?

1500.

I think I've only dropped the clutch higher once, and that was about 3500 rpm.

Launching at high RPMS isn't a problem just make sure you basically sidestep the clutch and don't feather it or you will do some damage. As long as the tires spin and the shock isn't going to the driveline you'll be ok. The S2000 is famous for the same thing, most people break rear diffs launching at 3000 rpms and bogging rather than high rpms.

Its a car. Drive it. If it breaks, don't do that again.

With the doors up. It'll look like a scene from "Transformers".

Glad to see you got the video! My absent mindedness keeps forgetting to put it on DVD for you.

Let me know if you still need that.

Um... did you just say meow?

Side step:

1. - Put the clutch to the floor.
2. - Rev engine.
3. - Slide left foot to the left side (as opposed to lifting your foot straight up).

You should go try it meow.

Its a pretty common technique. Its call "burning the clutch".

sidestep anywhere from 4000 - 7000 rpm depending on the tire/surface grip

not aware of any SCCA Pro Solo drivers having any issues breaking from the launch abuse

Well, 7k clutch dumps are not a typical launch for SCCA, seeing as how you will be turning before you have traction!

Team is referring to Pro Solo events, in which we do launch the car hard. We have a side-by-side drag race start with a short straight before we get to start turning.
